The wiki is your friend. Also there is a sticky in the pneumatic cannon discussion forum about piston valves with lots of images that would be a good place to start. A piston valve will definitely give better performance than the ball valve that the marble gun you linked to has. They aren't all that...

Some people will make handles out of wood, these can be shaped to whatever you like if you have the time and materials. On my current build I am using 1" PVC and two tees held on with hose clamps. The PVC will also house my ignition system and help to hide wires. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2529/...

Thanks for the info, I should have thought to look there, engineering toolbox has just about everything. However I think you misread my post, I'm looking for 3 thousand psi, not 300 (I will be using this in a high mix hybrid). So if I read that first table correctly, I would need at least a class 60...

High Pressure flange
I'm looking for a flange to use in a new hybrid, but I can't seem to find any rated past 300 psi. I've looked in the usual places (McMaster, Grainger, etc) but can't seem to find anything. I've seen mention of high pressure flanges, but i can't remember where. They would need to be 2" NPT threads. A...

Would probably be easier to just add a spring to a new one... Most people here build their own valves, but you might find someone who has an old supah they're looking to sell. How big of a chamber are you thinking of using? You say 3" diameter in the drawing but how long? You're going to have to mak...

Sort of, probably. You're going to need an extremely large air source to fill this fast enough to allow you to fire again in 3 seconds. Also, you won't be able to leave it connected to air the entire time without some sort of modifications. Once the valve opens, it will stay open until the chamber i...

Yea I'm not worried about metering, that part is pretty straight forward, I just have to decide which method to use. And I've built piston valves before, I'm just not wild about them in a hybrid, especially since I want to look at higher mixes. Stopping the mass of a piston without seriously damagin...

Hybrid Questions
Looking at everyone else's hybrids has got me wanting to make one too. I've been kicking ideas around for a little while and I have some questions. My budget is flexible, but I can't afford to keep dumping money into this so I want to try to plan something that will work as much as possible the firs...

For the record, this is actually recaptured video with the audio synced properly (for some reason there were issues with transferring it to the computer the first time around and it kept dropping frames and the audio was off). So it was new video with new editing and the addition of the slow-mo. Won...

It looks like it will work, but you will have to be careful when you make it. Make sure that you have more area exposed to pressure on the pilot side than on the chamber side, otherwise as clide noted, it won't work at all. Otherwise, neat design. Also, McMaster is an excellent source of o-rings, es...
