I agree it is kind of an ideal, but not an unreachable one. Doesn't a typical minigun spin a heavier barrel assembly at much higher speeds(1,000-10,000 rpm for the predator gun 3.2 HP max)? If he's only wanting 20rpm from maybe 50 pounds of plastic, 5hp seems a bit overkill to me. But it really depe...

cannon freak, I've been planning a project like this for some time. Always in the design stages, and never in the build phase  As you can tell, I don't frequent these forums often, it depends on which one of my many hobbies has my attention at the time. Here's some things I was planning, you ca...

I found this picture/schematic that I can understand: http://www.coilgun.info/mark4/scr_wiring.htm I'm assuming this is correct. I may not get a "stud" type, but it's labeled with the schematic language as well. I may have to test this and see what happens. I'll get an SCR, and rig it up to my exist...

Hey GalFisk, I'm having trouble figuring out how I would wire up an SRC. My plan was to trigger it with a momentary switch to the SCR to trigger the spark, and I can't seem to find anything more than electrical theory on the SCR's and that's not too much help for me. Could you give me some pointers ...

you can use a SCR (aka thyristor) to precisely trigger a stun gun. One that will handle the voltage across the internal spark gap costs a couple of bucks at the most. It can also be controlled electronically. --- I posted some ideas on spudtech a while ago about self-venting combustion chamber desi...

You should install a capacitor with a lower capacitance rating. Should have responded to this earlier. If I do this it will take less time to charge, but wouldn't it also produce a smaller--or shorter duration--spark? I guess that's not really a bad thing considering the massive spark they can put ...

Did some research on this site: http://www.emanator.demon.co.uk/bigclive/stunner.htm Apparently the main shock is triggered by a smaller spark gap ( X shaped ) which then dumps the cap through a high voltage pulse transformer. I wonder if I can put a switch or relay on this initial spark gap to trig...

frankrede, they've actually been fairly constructive with their comment so far, and anyone trying to help me out is welcome. I'm trying to find a simple solution if I can. Has anyone set up a stun gun so that it charges the cap and then waits for a signal--button push--to let the spark go? I may res...

I may do just that. I've messed around with the stun gun on the gun I have and when the button is pressed, it takes a bit for the capacitor to charge and then spark. Not long, but it's noticable. Also, if the button is held down for a bit too long, it partially charges the capacitor and when the but...

Alright I'll give a hint. I know a lot of people dream of this and plan it out in their heads, and I've been doing some planning and dreaming of my own. For a high-rate-of-fire spud gun :). I've been researching all the components necessary (main mechanics, fuel delivery, ignition system, ventilatio...

I suppose it could spark multiple times as the button is held. I'm really just needing a single spark, and more could be a nuiscance. It's for a project where timing of the shot is important. I suppose it could be slightly delayed as long as it was consistent. I was looking at some "High Voltage Tri...

Can I get a spark on demand?
Hello everyone. Been around SpudTech a bit but since it's closed, this is where all the knowledge is at. I don't know too much about electrical circuits. With a stungun, the button is pressed, capacitor charges and then a spark is formed many times a second as long as the button is held. Is there a ...
