chamber fan blockage

I want to add a chamber fan to my gun, and seal the back plate on, but, doest the back plate have to be off when inserting a projectile, so the air doesn't compress in the chamber?

Ok, I just built my first gun, pics below. Before I added the propane today, I was using spray ether, but had problems. I would spray a half second, close the cap, and try to ignite. nothing. I want to make a pneumatic as well (Put my dads 55 gallon 220v air compressor to use), but I want one I can bring anywhere, not having to worry about if there will be an air compressor near by.
