compact precision launcher

Velocity test on a can of water:

Almost finished...

It has a 1/2" qev, 0.875" barrel. My first breechloader I think. Barrel short enough to muzzleload an arrow.

Going for a California-legal look.

Re: Question regarding spigot mortar style ammo.

I like your thinking. I fooled around with the dowel inside the hollow projectile idea too, but gave up because I am lazy.

barrel thoughts

I've been thinking (uh oh) again about barrels. First, rifled chokes. I have a scrap .22 cal that maybe could be used as a rifled choke on the end of a smoothbore barrel. There is a hypothesis that a high speed slug slamming into the rifling might be bad for accuracy, but at pneumatic velocities pro...

Re: barrel thoughts

So interesting! I was also considering modifying a current coax muzzleloader to have a longer barrel... if successful there is huge potential for adding rifling or choke or simply barrel length.

Re: Little help with my first prototype

Looks fun! I agree A is oversize. The reservoir will lose pressure every shot, and if A is not very much smaller than the reservoir, that loss of pressure will be quite noticeable every shot. The hammer valve can have a self regulating effect but that is totally different technology. I have a slide ...

Re: Little help with my first prototype

I think that the pressure drop is for the chamber. When you see the warning about barrel choking flow it's a sign your chamber is too large for the barrel... should be nice and loud but maybe not the balanced performance you want. Increasing barrel diameter nearly always increases energy, and veloci...

the air cartridge we wanted

Joerg's new toy. I fooled around with this cartridge design decades ago but gave up because it was long before 4500 psi handpumps were available. This sparked interest in it again, maybe with a 40mm size cartridge 8-) ... maybe rimless for better feeding in JSR's brain. https://www.youtube.com/watch...

Re: Throwbag Cannon

More important for me is the failure mode. PVC makes sharp shrapnel, most ABS yawns or makes squared off pieces.

Re: preloaded pneumatic cartridge

Using the cut capsule did you fill it with something or leave it hollow? Hollow suggests dead space maybe?

Very cool air cartridge you built. Too much machining for me... remember the good old days of epoxy-cast-everything?

Re: fl(air) gun - mechanically locked pneumatic cartridge for a 26.5mm flare gun

I agree with Hectmarr that is a neat way to build a check valve.
