cold BBQ igniter?

i live in michingan it is about 40 -50 degrees outside, will it effect the BBQ igniter? because i dont get a spark eveytime i push the button (only about 1 out of 5) also is it cold enough for the hairspry not to work? if it doesn't effect it. is there any other reasons why it wont work?

No it wouldn't affect the spark but pvc isn't safe to use in cold weather anyways. Maybe the gap is too far, it's sorta hard to tell by the picture.

Iv'e seen bar-b-que ignighters be weak to faulty before. Try useing another one.

PVC can become brittle in cold weather, and you may need to clean off the sparkers if you're using hairspray, it leaves a sticky residue.

thanks MisterSteve124 it was the gap (or so i think) i put in two longer electrodes and it i dry tested it (with a mirror) and it sparked every time. i couldn't launch somthing because it was 11:30 and i have neighbors but i'm confident that it is going to work.

I'm not really sure what i'm talking about but couldn't the spark be to weak? Different materials have different flash points (aka the temp at which they ignite).

When you're talking about fuels it isn't the liquid that burns, it is the vapor. Hairspray doesn't evaporate quickly OR completely and has a lot of other garbage in it so it just doesn't make an even halfway decent fuel. You need to have a fuel that evaporates (alcohols, ether) or is already a gas (propane, MAPP). Good, cheap, simple fuels include starting fluid, Tag body spray, (my personal favorite), or 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol sprayed in a fine mist. Propane and butane are very popular and excellent fuels but I haven't used either of them very much so most of my knowledge about them is second hand or basic science. Do me one favor though. Don't take your plastic gun outside in Michigan if it's cold out. PVC, like any other plastic will become britle.
