try harder <--- that's for the Abram's 120mm main gun btw
Or if we're doing most destructive guns, it doesn't get much better than this

Unforunately the nuke artillery had a habit of radiating its own crews. That's why we switched to air based stuff. But I'm sure china has some of these in one form or another.
I read somewhere that the guy who came up with ramjet ammunition also had plans for a cannon capable of launching into space. The idea was to make a cheap alternative to launch components into space. The draw back,it'd have to be up on Everest. The Yeti people/crazy monks didn't like that So it never went through.

It's all good man, everyone oes it once in a while. Just remember this, anything combustable used as a projectile, no no. Explosives, be it high or low order, are prohibited. But geez, you're talking about launching slugs out of a cannon for several hunder yards, how much more fun can you have?anatov wrote:Sorry, I wasn't aware of the limit on what you discuss. I'll only say that there is a way for a firework to damage like that, but that is all I'll say, that and that I apologize for posting that, I guess I'll have to read the rules a bit more thoroughly
There was that one time in Tiajuana...

I think you're referring to the work of Dr. Gerald Bull, responsible for many outrageous gun designs such as the high altitude research project - I believe his work was cut short not by Yeti people but by the fact that he pissed off many intelligence agencies by helping the Iraqis and Chinese develop long range artillery.goathunter wrote:I read somewhere that the guy who came up with ramjet ammunition also had plans for a cannon capable of launching into space. The idea was to make a cheap alternative to launch components into space. The draw back,it'd have to be up on Everest. The Yeti people/crazy monks didn't like that So it never went through.

If it interest you, you could try to make explosive ammunition. It takes a bit more time and possibly scavenging to make bu the end result could be very interesting. This is just an idea I'm toying with so its open to any change in design. I was looking at the nail and lead design when I got this idea to make it into an explosive round. It basiclly for a tube covered at one end, filled with an explosive which could be anything from simple stike-anywhere-matche heads to nitrocellulose, and then tipped with an igniter. The idea I 'm working on right now is the match head idea. If you take the head, and just the head, of a bunch of strike anywhere matches and stuff them into a tube, cover one end and place a cylinder that fits pretty well on the other end then exert force on the cylinder so it compresses the match head, it should produce enough friction to ignite the whole thing. Just an idea.

Discussion of solid propellants, explosive devices or incendiary projectiles fired specifically from a spud cannon is prohibited, and may result in a permanent banning of your account. For the purpose of this forum, these definitions will be used:
Solid propellant: Any substance containing all the chemical elements required to enable sustained combustion without the presence of additional oxidizers. This includes but is not limited to gunpowder, thermite, and many commercial and/or homemade pyrotechnic compounds.

For this purpose, ordinary flour, though solid, would not qualify.
Explosive device: Any device that has the capability to release large amounts of stored energy rapidly.
Discussion of fireworks as projectiles is prohibited.
Discussion of "soda bottle bombs" or any other similar devices that may cause shrapnel as a result of uncontrolled rupture is prohibited.
Incendiary projectile: Any projectile that is capable of producing flame.
Rocket propelled projectiles, pyrotechnic smoke bombs, or any other burning projectiles would qualify as an incendiary projectile.

Well I've been tinkering around with ideas for my combustion cannon, and so far I have this... Its just a plaster of paris sabot and steel rod... The plaster is still a tad bit heavier than I'd like to see, so I'm going to try a Pykrete type mixture with the plaster by adding either styrofoam or sawdust. The steel rod will of course be sharpened to a point on my final product when I go to test it...
I WILL go through some cinder block
When I get a perfected product and some damage shots, I'll post some updates... hehehe

Unless you plan on shooting 5 feet away from your target, you should attatch some stabilizing fins to the back end of the rod, but other than that, it's a great round.

That's got to be all kinds of heavy. I can't imagine that having a very high muzzle velocity at all.

High muzzle velocity, no. high muzzle energy, hell yes. and if you do close range damage testing then you should be golden.

Close range yes, but what good is a cannon if the thing only shoots 20 feet? I would want somethign with more velocity
