This one is historic for us. Only 60 recorded since they been recording these in Maryland.Moonbogg wrote:At first I couldn't see how this was hardly even newsworthy, but then I realized that this is the first time i've ever even heard of an earthquake on the east coast. So, is this an interesting occurence or just an occurence?

My first earthquake too.
I didn't really have a chance to be scared by it, it was over just after I realized what it was.

I live between Baltimore and DC. My house shook like a goddamned leaf. Apparently there was also a somewhat large quake in Colorado this morning as well.

The quake in Colorado was last week or month, not really sure but not this morning.
Edit: I was wrong, there was 1 there in the wee early hours of the morning. Like around 1am the news said.

People felt it here in NJ, but on the top floor of my house where I was no vibration could be felt. I did hear things banging downstairs though.

No offence but when I see an article like this where the first three pictures are of women being upset, well... 181 people died in the Christchurch earthquake earlier this year, as far as natural disasters go...
In the absence of tragic facts to report, we'll report fear of potential tragedy. In Virginia there were reports of damage caused by the quake, while the streets of downtown Washington and New York were filled with thousands of people hauled out of buildings for fear they could collapse.
There were also fears of a nuclear disaster of the kind seen in Japan's Fukushima because the epicentre was just a few miles from two nuclear power plants.

Reminds me of that Mitchell and Webb video you linked earlier, the news oneIn the absence of tragic facts to report, we'll report fear of potential tragedy.

I would take some mickey out of you East Coaster's if it wasn't for the fact that the city I live in (Auckland) received the smallest amount of snow the other week (and a rare 2.9 earthquake a month before). Everyone was raving on about it because you would have to be mad if you thought it would ever snow here in your lifetime.
I'll be very cross if someone mentions that "2011 has seen more natural disasters than any other year". In fact I'll cyber-slap you then hit you over the head with a heavy science-laden book on natural disasters if you dare mention the idiotic statement.

Apparently a friend of mine felt it in Atlanta, GA, but it wasn't much more than a slight shake.

To be fair, the only person I've personally ripped in to for spouting such nonsense was a muso agnostic who suddenly became all climate-aware because she probably thought it was "in". She even created a facebook group.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:It's a clear sign God is angry! *ducks*

If you are playing the God card.. more earthquakes is simply a sign of the end times. How long that will be, nobody knows.
If you are into this, this is the prediction.
