Very cool!
Just a hole in the center, then a tungsten carbide ball is pressed .0005" into the hole, and then surfaced cleaned. Then a silicon carbide ball is used for the actual seal.
The taper is to small to be seen. A microscope is used to check for small particles that which will mess up the seal when pressing. The balls are very smooth and no pitting when looked at under a microscope. It is seated just with gravity, when testing, but when in a finished valve a spring seats the ball.
