Great design and video.

What does the extra 15cm pull achieve with respect to fps?

Is losing the self centering worth it?

Your shots sound the same as previous models (unless the distance was increased).

A little nit picking: AFAIK It is not a compound device.

The compound bow has the string attached to the pulleys (cams), one or both of which has one or more cables attached to the opposite limb. When the string is drawn back, the string causes the pulleys to turn. This causes the pulleys to pull the cables, which in turn causes the limbs to bend and thus store energy.

My designs aren't for sale. Self centering doesn't work with draw length enhanced slingshots, they would invariable turn around towards the shooter when you draw out. It's either or.
Yeah. I rethought the self centering thing a while ago. Very nice job, though.

Stu, it is too cold for serious speed tests right now. Any slingshot will stay well below average at the temperatures we are seeing here (-10 centigrade). A disadvantage of rubber.

The design does give an enhancement on the speed. Is it worth giving up the self centering? For the expert, yes. Experts do not need the self centering, long practice will avoid wrong angles anyway. Experts also want every bit of energy available and there is no such thing as an insignificant enhancement.

Beginners should go with the self centering, the low fork and fairly waek bands - no strain on the wrist, no sore muscles, and no hits on the fork or hand.

Regards

Jörg,

Excuses, excuses!

Come on. Warm the rubbers inside your house and take a few steps outside for a quick chrony shot.

If you can stand out in that cold without a warm coat, it would be easy for you to do.

Do we really have to wait for Spring before you chrony?

You are the King of slingshots!

Well, my chrony is also in need of repair. Left it out in the rain for just two minutes, now it delivers funny results.

It is hard to compare slingshots in the first place, even in the same weather. The speed varies, you have to do at least 20 shots to get a reliable average with every band set. You have to use freshly cut bands, as they tire out, which sometimes is even good for performance (because you may be able to draw them out longer if they have softened a bit).

Don't get me wrong, this slingshot is amongst my strongest models, I know that w/o my chrony. I would need to cut different band sets to optimize it, play with the length and width of the bands, and see how these bands work with different ammo.

It usually costs me a whole day to optimize a setup, just for me personally of course - a different person would have to go through the same routine.

Muscle energy based weapons share that challenge, I guess - bows, slingshots, spears and so on. It is easy to make one that works good for most people, but to squeeze the full potential out is time intensive.

Hello,

some time ago, I watched a youtube video made by a little boy, showing off a slingshot he calls "gloveshot".

I thought that the idea has potential, so I made my version of the "Gloveshot" today, as always from stainless steel.

I had to change the kid's original design a bit to allow strong bands.

I have to say that I am really pleased with the result! Absolutely exciting is the the totally relaxed fingers. As you can see in the third pic, you don't even have to close your fist. Smitty, I think you will simply love this design.

Of course, without the hand brace, this would not work at all, the grip would rotate in your hand even when you use very light bands. But this works with really heavy bands, it is true, the forearm muscles are way more powerful when the fist is horizontal.

I think the fork could be a bit lower, will do some high speed video tomorrow to verify.

Other than that, so far I think it is pretty much perfect!

Video will follow on Sunday.

Regards

Jörg

Wow, Nice, but aren't braces such as those illegal in Germany, or is that just wrist-braces?

This cerainly has potential...If you can find a way to combine this wit hthe self-centering version you will have the best slingshot in the world I think.

Especially with the laser attached.
I'm guessing you will no longer shake as much..

GREAT!

Doesn't the wrist (or hand) brace make this illegal?
Or is it legal because it is a hand brace instead of a wrist brace.

It looks comfortable though. The strain on the wrist now applies from the backside of the hand instead of the thumb side.

With a lower fork and heavier bands this will become one hell of a powerful slingshot.

Well here it is, slingshots all in one place. If I counted correctly 44 threads were merged to create this thread!

Keep up the good work JeorgS, thanks. :D

Thanks very much, jrrwd, I did not realize how many threads I already started here.

Some of the earlier pics are missing because the original pic host does not work anymore, I will try to change the links, but it may take some time to do that.

Best regards

Here is the video:

21 years ago, Mr. Elvin Olson got a patent for a "slingbow" that included the concept shown here. He must be seen as the original inventor.

http://tinyurl.com/ydv8ckh

Of course the slingshot presented here has been enhanced and strengthened very much. This is a design that can be used with the strongest bands out there, and has been optimized for the hands of strong adults. It is made 100% from stainless steel. And since it does not have an arm support, just a hand brace, it is legal in countries like Germany.

Not even three months after no. 500 signed up as a youtube subscriber of The Slingshot Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/JoergSprave), the 1000st youtuber subscribed (on Jan. 11, 2010)!

The growing rate of the channel is staggering. It took almost 9 months to get the first 500! At this rate number 2000 isn't going to take long.

In good tradition, the lucky winner will receive a free "surprise" slingshot.

This time, the slingshot goes to the Czech Republic. Here are a few words from the winner himself:

----------------------------------------
My name is Pavel,

i am from Czech Republic and since i was a kid i use to make myself slingshots, testing them and enjoying this passion with my friends.Unfortunately i was living for a long time in a big city and had not a lot of oportunity and time for slingshots, but few months ago i have moved to my native village and discovered your videos, this gave me again the desire to make some new slingshots and i am really enjoying it.Big thanks to Jörg for sharing his passion, his videos, impressions and advices with us .I hope you will open The Jörg slingshot store one day or just keeping your blog alive.

Thanks again to you and the other slingshoters .

Best regards

Pavel

Are you not tempted?? :D

I can imagine your channel growing after you have become such a big hit here on spudfiles.

I certainly am tempted, but now that my 2 weeks of vacation over the holidays are over, I can only hit the workshop on the weekend...

And there are other ideas, too!

BTW I am active on a total of 14 forums now. It is the combination of forum work and constant video output that makes the success possible. After all, slingshots are exotic and not very popular, in comparison with other weapons.
