It's not clay, but what about plaster.they use it to cast gold,so why not steel or aluninum?
good luck with the lathe
.that link really inspired me. I may try to make one myself,so I dont have to go to my grandpa's house to use his C.N.C or lathe

Go to lindsy publications and request a catalog.

This catalog is full of fun stuff I want like 3/4 of their books
i just don't have the mony
I cant use plaster. I need clay it is more heat resistant than plaster and gold has a lower melting point than aluminum. you didn't sound negative about the motor.

I did find out that kitty litter is bentonite clay but it needs to be turned into a powder so I am going to make a simple ball mill to turn the litter into powder

ok,and thanks for the link.If you need the one pully with all the different wheels on it,the one that makes it variable speed,I've got a steel one off a drillpress. I've also got lots of the little handles, lathe parts, ect. ,so if you need any,and you pay for shipping, yoou can have them
