I've only fished for shark once.
We were fishing near a gas rig on Lake Pontchartrain for speckled trout, but only catching mullet. Also, we were seeing sharks often coming up to take out catch.
So, we tied up some leader (I wish using a small spinning reel... forget the brand and model) and baited up some cut mullet. Was fun, but we really didn't get anything to the boat.

Did you know the ex-sniper Carlos Hathcock picked up shark fishing after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis?
Just a random fact that I have no clue as to how I know.

My uncle was fishing off the coast of florida for marlin or something and hooked on to a 11 foot 700 pound mako sp? shark. The shark is hanging above an inside pool his friend owns. The boat had to go in reverse to keep up with it and so he could reel it in.

I like to use a barracuda that has basically been filleted and I throw out chunks of the fillet as bait. I just tie the carcass off the back of the boat with a clamp. You'd be surprised how well that works.
