The footprints idea sounds pretty solid. The key to a tattoo is the visual impact at first glance. Foot prints moving up indicate ascension etc etc yadda yadda.

Get it in a place where it's easy to conceal.

To be honest, don't get one. You will end up regretting it when you get to your 60's when your skin starts to wrinkle up, it gets deformed and looks bad. I have seen multiple people who are easily 75 with tatoos and they look horrible.

If you do get one, just put it some where easy to conceal like Gade said.

It's going to go starting at my right elbow going up

Should the prints be going around my arm or like he is walking like next to each other but at an angle

Should thr prints have a letter from his name in each print?

Any color other then black

I would also suggest not getting one but for the reason that it may seem like a good idea while your son is young and can't comprehend it but later in his life it might not seem so awesome. Just imagine your 50 year old dad having a tattoo about you on his arm...

If I ever get a tattoo (not likely at this stage), it'd remind me where we all come from. Something like a phylogenetic tree or a phrase/drawing from one of Darwin's works.

You're breeding

I wouldn't do it. What if your son turns out to be a screaming bender.

What if the theory (it's just a theory, after all!) of evolution is proved incorrect by the discovery of some new Dead Sea scrolls proving that God put dinosaur bones in the ground as a test of faith? You'd look pretty silly then :D imagine how those idiots with "Nothing's faster than light!" tattoos are feeling now!

I'd feel just as bad for the people who have a Newton's Theory of Gravity-themed tattoo*†‡ :P

Here are some random bad tattoos:
1
2

*and: cell theory, germ theory, atomic theory, plate tectonics etc etc.
†technically, it is replaced by the general theory of relativity but I list it as Newton's theory for those who aren't familiar with the latter theory and the near accuracy of Newton's theory.
‡isn't it amazing that people don't understand that one word can have several different meanings (such as live)? Stephen Jay Gould wrote a good article about it here.

I'll say this....

When I was 20 I wanted to get a particular tattoo. I considered the whole, "You'll regret it later" argument and ended up not getting it.

I'm 41 and I still regret not getting that tattoo.

(I do have two others, however.)
