Mini Bike

Im making a mini bike and all i have for it is the motor which is a 8 HP Brigs and Stratton motor and i was wondering if you could give me tips before i start to buy stuff. Here is what i was planning to do i was going to buy a wheel barrow tire for the front tire and a ATV tire for the back tire. I was going to use 1 inch tubing for the frame. That was about as far as i got. Please give ideas, where to buy stuff, what stuff to use, and sizes of stuff to use. Write if you want more infromation. Please help.

if you've got a welder, I suggest with an 8 horse motor, you should get some squared piping, like 2 inches. You should also definitely get some source of suspension, or all of the recoil from the bumps will go straight to the frame and shake the thing apart. If you've got an old bike, just rif the suspension off of that. It works great, I've tried! Actually, you could use the whole front fork of the bicycle. Makes me want to build one -Good luck with that. Post if you need some more ideas...I've got plenty!

Would square tubing work better then round tubing because i dont have as much square pipe. I was thinking about putting some type of suspension on there but the problem with that is all those moving parts come loose as well. I dont plan on using it for off road use either so would i need a suspension.

i guess square tubing would be a bit stronger than round. just the way the forces push... in my head it makes sense yeh, i reckonsuspension would be good for on road as well cos it would be vibrating like hell on bitumen. goodluck and post some pics when its done!

Thanks for all the tips so far. I decided to use 3/4 or 1 inch rigid metal pipe. I decided to use round pipe instead of square pipe because i thought it would be easier to bend in certain directions. One thing about the whole suspension thing i plan on doing it but would i have to do it in the front also or would the one in back work by itself. For the centrifugal clutch and the throttle cable thing i plan on getting from my freinds dad for some other parts. PLEASE tell me if you seen any centerfugial clutches on the internet for a motor with a 1"bore and a 1/4" key for less than 50 bucks (jackssmallengines.com). Sorry that it is taking me so long but i will post some pics when im do. Thanks agian.

i guess back suspension would still be fine without front. you wouls just get a smooth ride for ur bum and ur hands would vibrate more. cant help u with the clutch, sorry.

UPDATE: Im still building my mini bike but like everything it changes more the more you get into it. Im know using a 12HP Wisconsin that came off a snowmobile because it allready had a centerfugial clutch built into the shaft (it was free!). Im building the frame out of 3/4 rigid black pipe. For the front tire I bought a wheel barrow tire from Home Depot. I bought my back tire from Pocket Racers in Cali for 32$ and it has a sprocket, drum brake, axle, and a chain (good deal) its been 23 days and I havent got it but FedEx said it would get here tomorrow. I salvaged a monoshock, brake cable, brake lever, and a few other things from my freinds old scooter frame and I will incorperate them into my mini bike. Like babies Ive been thinking of name for my mini bike before it is born its currently the CS Zoom (CS is my initials) the name will be unchanged unless I come up with a better name or someone else gives me a good name for my mini (I have a fetish for naming my favorite material items). One thing that will make this bike stand out is that I plan on making a propane tank with a tee on it one line will go to the onboard mid size combustion gun and the other line will go to my exhaust with a spark plug in it (Big flame will come out of the exhuast pipe). Thats alot of typing theres one more thing.

I going to store (Bearing, Belt, and Chain) tomorrow to buy a sprocket and but I dont know what size (diameter) of a sprocket to buy. Is there some basic equation that you can plug in the horse power and RPM of your motor to see what the ratio needs to be between the sprocket on the tire and the front sprocket because I dont know if they will let me return a sprocket if it makes my bike run to fast or slow. Are your eyes tired? Ill paste pictures of my mini bike as soon as it is done.

Anyone who knows me, knows that im very double-sided. I am very lazy at times and at other times Im unstoppable. Well project "mini bike" is one of my projects that I have been exercising my lazyness skills on, and if I keep at the same rate I might be done before I die...

YET ANOTHER UPDATE:
The mini bike is still non-completed. The frame is sitting underneath my deck, which is two 20ft sticks of 3/4 black pipe. All the parts for it have now accumulated in one central location as of now. I have everything all I need to do is buy a #40 sprocket with a 2 1/8" ID for the rear tire (already have one but to small). I also need to by some more chain because I only bought 2ft and I defintly will need more then that. If your wondering why I kicked up this topic to say this, it is because this time I belive that I will actually get around to it. Enough blabbing here are some pics of stuff for the hopefully-soon-to-be-mini-bike. I must note that there are several things not pictured...

you know how hard it is going to be to ride with tires that small? Dang, I had a hard time riding my yz85 cause of the small tires so I bumped up to the KDX 200 (I ride in the woods though, through ruts and roots and rocks so thats the main problem for small tires. I think small tires would make the bike wobble at higher speeds)

I dont know if you realize but the front tire is 16" tall and the back tire is 17" tall. Ive seen mini bikes with much smaller wheels. Some only seem to be 6" tall. I consider these tires to be adnormally large...

I like it. The tires will be fine, but the ride may be a bit bumpy with no suspension. to counteract that, id just lower the tyre pressure a few psi 8)
