And Japanese engineers can get 1600+ BHP out of 3.2L on PUMP GAS. Search youtube for "supra dyno".
But we're not talking about exotics, imports, or forign engineering: we're talking about American-made, single-overhead-cam-shaft, two-valve-per-cylinder engines, and in particular, those with high mileage.
That 4.9L straight six does it's job quite well, inefficient and heavy as it may be. The fact that it's still running with 230k on it is proof of that. Save for old Mercedes diesels, I haven't seen many European cars, or exotics for that matter, with that many miles on them.
But don't get me wrong, I appreciate German and Italian engineering every bit as much as the next guy.... I drive a Japanese car myself :p
