Got my truck

[WOW!!]

Here is my truck, its a 94' F150 4x4 with a 4.9L straight 6, stick shift. Its got over 230,000 miles but it runs really good. Its a 1/2ton but we have had a little over 1ton on there and it ran fine. Its good off road, only thing that happened to it that was major was the slave cylinder went, oil pan gasket, water pump and the right hub got busted off by some dumb ass who hit it. And its got 150hp and 210Lbs/tq

Overall it is good, needs a new driver side seat, its a little torn. I was going to lift it but since its older I am not.

230k miles. Make sure you take it in to a mechanic, or look it over yourself if you're mechanically inclined, and make sure nothing needs replacing. So is that the original engine, or has it been rebuilt?

First car? If so, not bad at all. Looks pretty good for that high mileage. The upholstery is easy enough to fix... and some engine degreaser would probably do it wonders

I had an '84 Ranger that lasted to about 240k with no major overhaul work. Just a new carborator... I did belts and hoses every 100k or less, along with all the usual maintenance. I think it broke a ball joint once but I don't remember....

150hp and 210 ft/lbs sounds awfully low for a 4.9L inline six. My Explorer has a 4.0L V6 that cranks out almost 300hp with nothing done to it but intake and exhaust. Where'd you get those 150/210 numbers? I'd bet it puts out more than that, or did in it's prime anyway.

Spanerman, keep in mind we're talking about a high mileage straight six. I don't think any of your fancy European techs would know what to do with it.

WOW!!, nice first truck! A guy I know at work has got almost the same exact one. Straight six 90-something and he got it with a decent mileage. I've got a '96 Ranger V-4. Just had to replace the entire damn right idle arm, get new tires, and get the front-end aligned because I ran it into a ditch, though. (Hey, I'm a great driver when I'm awake!).

My stepdad's got an F-150 a little older than yours, (I think it's a ninety-three, but then again I never really asked). I like to drive it around, but he needs to work on the electrical bad. Half the time it won't start because his stupid CD/Radio thingo drained the battery.

And Japanese engineers can get 1600+ BHP out of 3.2L on PUMP GAS. Search youtube for "supra dyno".
But we're not talking about exotics, imports, or forign engineering: we're talking about American-made, single-overhead-cam-shaft, two-valve-per-cylinder engines, and in particular, those with high mileage.

That 4.9L straight six does it's job quite well, inefficient and heavy as it may be. The fact that it's still running with 230k on it is proof of that. Save for old Mercedes diesels, I haven't seen many European cars, or exotics for that matter, with that many miles on them.
But don't get me wrong, I appreciate German and Italian engineering every bit as much as the next guy.... I drive a Japanese car myself :p

THe oil pan gasket went and I havetn got around to fixing it yet that is why it is so oily. And they are the factory numbers, and it can haul 3/4 ton no problem, got good accelation.

And since I know a good amount about engines and things I went over it and it looks good. Just got it inspected and it passed with a A+.

It runs really good for the high mileage, I put some Restore in the oil to help to balance the compresson. It gets good MPG, like around 12-14, not bad for a full size truck.

I bet this will last longer than some european car. My dad has kept up with the matience, but its due for a CRM. It doesnt need anything as of now, just had the slave cylinder replace like 70,000 miles ago, and the water pump meaby 30,000.

The numbers I got out of my Chilton book, if you dont know what that is, its a repair manuel, the best ones made, ever.

The numbers are 4.9L 300ci 6cyl. MFI(multi port injection) SFI(sequential fule injection) OHV(over head valves), for the tranny its a ZF S4-42 if I remember right, Dana 44 IFS up front, and a Ford 8.8" in the back, the transfer case is a Borg-Warner 13-56 2speed, 150@3400 NHP, and 260@2000Lbs/ft NT. 4.00x3.98 Bore and stroke, 8.8:1 compression.

Firstly, the steering wheel is on the wrong side! (I'm kidding, I'm Australian)
Those F-series are nice, have you see the F-650s, they're massive; us Australians aren't game to try and make something that big; I mean even the F-150s are monsterous compared to anything we make!
230k miles is heaps, I haven't converted it to kilometres, but it's ALOT of km's!
So how much did you pay for it? (if you don't mind me asking)

I had a diesle 1991 7.4 liter 4 door ford F-350 king cab 8 foot bed It had like a little ove 200,000 miles on it I got rid of it due to it being to exspencive to fix and wasn't 4 wheel drive. Now I got a 1978 ford f-150 short bed (6 foot) with a 390ci big block with about 50,000 miles on it since last rebuild, a 4 speed standard 4 wheel drive dana 60 front posi lock and a 9" posi lock rear with a 3.73 gear ratio front and back. It is my favorit color Red. I can snatch all 4 gears lighting up the 245 lt 60 16 inch tire's. The only thing I don't like with newer cars or truck is that airbag I got smaked with those things to much and they do hurt and they stink when they pop. All in all you got your self a nice truck those ford 300 striaght 6's last for ever

I got the truck for free, it was my dads, he got a used 03 F350 so he gave me this one and got it fixed but I have to pay for the registration and things, and I am porb overhaul it.

Maybe with forced induction. But getting 600hp from 2.1 liters would require an absolutely insane redline (think past F1 engines).

I'd like to know what engine you're talking about, actually. I've never heard of 2.1 liter engines with 600hp.



Anyway... why do so many of you have trucks? Do you tow stuff on a regular basis, or what? I much prefer the speed, agility, and general performance of a car.

yeah I've got an R31 Skyline; stock as can be, but damn is it fast, and fun to drive! I've only managed to get it to 170km/h, but I know it had plenty more to go!

all i was saying was that its freaking 4.9l i have a 2.8l ford granada running 200 stock and thats done 150 000 miles.....
