I made a mine using the same concepts, except rather than a burst disk, I used a check valve implemented backwards so as to hold back the pressure. A pin was attached to the check valve from the store, but I extended it so it protruded above a small cup full of pellets right above the valve. The chamber was buried length of 1" PVC, then at a right angle the check valve rig poked out of the ground. Viola! A step mine that you dont need to replace a burst disk for every use. And as an added feature a fill hose complete with schrader stem surfaced some 3 inconspicuous feet from the mine itself.

Then I sold it at a profit for $20 =D
Proud to be the only kid on my robotics team with pneumatics experience.

yeah I dont mind replacing the burst disk for this though... all I have to do is take off the top peice and place the disk on and then put the top piece back on... This simple method of replacing the burst disk would have to be done anyways to reload it so its really not any more work :D

why not hAve the lid be on a hinge so that when the burst disk goes of the balls and air blow the lid out of their way. Also is there anyway to electrically trigger a burst via a shock or something to the burst disk? The bail does not work that well because it makes only a small hole for the air to escape. What would be cool is instead of a tripwire there could be some tilype of pump that the person would step on and the burst disk would pop.

well the nail would only make a small hole but the disk will be made out of aluminum foil which once it gets a small hole it would create a huge hole from the pressure... Also the reason I wouldn't have a hinge is because a hinge wouldn't make the nail pierce the burst disk.

When the nail pierces the aluminum disk the pressurized air behind it causes the whole burst disk to break open...

When this is converted to a mine the cap has holes on the top so the powder can not only shoot out the side but up as well... When converted to a grenade it lands on either end and it goes out the side of the grenade which is actually pointed up. When converted to a grenade launcher all of the air is directed towards the barrel (mini burst disk cannon.) There would be no need for a pump because when this is converted to its "mine" state, when you step on it the lid goes down, pierces the disk and all the powder shoots straight up.

Anyways here is a picture of what the grenade launcher will look like and how it will work..

In the picture below it shows how attaching the barrel will seal the burst disk (coupling attached to the barrel)

The actual finished product would have rail mounts attached and a trigger to pierce the burst disk.

Note: The finished project may look better than the models provided.

I used the exact same concept to design cheap and fairly safe pneumatic impact bombs for paintball and stuff

my design took advantage of free and light weight soda bottles to make affordable projectiles

I hope I dont sound like a noob <---- specially since I am military.. but what are you using for the burst disk in these designs of building landmines? I am very interested..

The burst disk is a part of the valve, when you pull the trigger the burst-disc ehh bursts. The burst-disc holds al the air.

Aluminum foil, metal from a pop can, gatorade tops (most common i have heard on this website).... and the list goes on.

So basically, if you can get a circular, thin, and easily accessible material that can hold pressure up to a certain point, then you can use it as a burst disk, as long as it fits tight.

so you saying take a male and female thread adapter.. stretch aluminum foil across it.. tighten the two adapters on that.. then pressurise it.. and use something to bust it.. which of course results in a bigger hole.. since its pressureized? am i right?

Well usually this is done in a union, but your generally the disk bursts by itself due to the limit of the pressure the disk material can take.

But in this instance since he wants to control the bursting at a psi that maybe lower than the bursting pressure, he has a device to puncture a hole that will expand when the air is forced through.

From what you wrote it looks like you understand.
