Alright well I earned a pretty good amount of money over the summer working my butt off so I decided to make a new cannon. GGDT says a golf ball will go 921fps at 150psi air and 1942 feet max range. If I had helium I could break the sound barrier with a golf ball. 1160fps. And also dont worry all my fittings are pressure rated nsf-pw.

I ordered everything from sprinkler.com

So my new cannon will be a 3" chamber/barrel sealing valve with 2.5" porting and piloted by a 1" sprinkler valve. it will have a multitude of barrels any size but right now I have fittings for a 2" and 1.5" my main barrel that will give me 921fps will be 10' of 1.5"sdr21 and I can use all my old barrels on my other cannons. The chamber will be either 4 or 3 feet of 4" pvc. And it will be an over under. Has anyone ever made a chamber/barrel sealing valve before? I will be able to do this because the piston will seal in the tee and against the chamber and for equalization I will have two tees with hose connecting in between with one going to the chamber or the part of the valve the fitting doesn't thread all the way to and the other tee tapped into the pilot volume of the piston valve. and on the tees there will be a pressure gauge, quick disconnect, a pop off valve and a ball valve. the ball valve will be in the open position when I use it for a chamber sealer and closed when used for a barrel sealer.

Feel free to give me any input and comments on my desighn

I got the idea from seeing

http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15456&

and the piston idea came from this how to

Alright now to the good stuff. In this build log I will include pictures of assembly and everything and videos as well and problems I may encounter and maybe you all here can help me. I will also take Pictures before and after Painting and my dad's friend paints motorcycles and cars for a living so I could get a really good paint job from him or I will do it my self with krylon fusion. This cannon also will not be able to be held I think it might be to heavy so I have make a stand for it your probably thinking 11 ponds but you have to add the chamber size and barrel size which shouldn't be much so it might be able to be held.

10/02/08 5:45pm I received the tracking number so I should get the order like Saturday or Monday maybe Tuesday

10/09/08 12:00 pm I got the package and me and my friend started gluing or sanding I should say because the fittings for some odd reason had way to tight of a fit and wouldn't even go half way in the tee so we sanded a bit and got them in. I also took some pictures and here they are.

<a href="http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... =Image.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... /Image.jpg" border="0" alt="All the parts"></a>
as you can see pretty much all the fittings are threaded so I could take apart the valve easily and change around barrels and chambers. also the elbow for the barrel is all threaded together and yes i used teflon tape and note the sch80 nipples they look cool with white pvc

<a href="http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... Image3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... Image3.jpg" border="0" alt="modded sprinkler valve"></a>
here is the virtual rain 1" valve i got from sprinkler.com it was 60% off so I bought it easy mod but i cracked the plastic after putting telfon tape after I had threaded it so i epoxied it in and then im going to take some 1" pipe and fill around it with epoxy if I have enough or gorilla glue.

<a href="http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... Image4.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... Image4.jpg" border="0" alt="The piston valve"></a>
valve is halfway there somewhat

<a href="http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... _1126a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... _1126a.jpg" border="0" alt="The completed valve"></a>
valve is done sorry i don't have a good camera on my phone and sorry for the purple primer stains I didn't have enough money on my debit card to get some but if you know how to remove it I would like to know.

<a href="http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... _1136a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff27 ... _1136a.jpg" border="0" alt="this worries me"></a>
for some reason the 3" threaded bushing wont go all the way in the female adapter im afraid to turn it further and crack it so im just going to leave it its already super tight.

also the seat which is the 3" x 2.5" bushing has a flat bottom I was like yay perfect and the other that goes the the barrel does not.

yes a drag coefficient of 0.2 is right for golfballs.

It's not very difficult to hit the 1000 fps range with a low grade (2x), medium chamber (250 ci) , 6' barrel, 150 psi burst disked hybrid. You'll need more chamber and more barrel to get that velocity with a pneumatic.

Nothing like having parts on order for your next cannon is there..

Yeah .22 - .25 drag for golfball... 8)

No, golf balls are 0.3 - well, actually 0.299, but who's counting?
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

I've seen them listed anywhere between .2 - .3, mostly in the low to mid 20's, and they are going vary between manufacturer.

Alrighty well I have bad news not so bad but according to ups traking I will get everything on thursday of this coming week and yeah .2 is what I had read at a website. And I guess I will just tell you my idea its going to be a chamber sealer but i could take the valve off and make it a barrel sealer if i wanted to, so am I the first one to think of this or not probably not though. Its going to be a 3" piston valve with 2.5" porting.

1000fps is pretty damn fast. Sounds awesome. Got a hopup in the works? Oh, and do you have a sketch of some sort so we can see what it will look like?

Yeah its fast I know lol and I do have an idea for a hop up once I make it if it works ill make a how to for it my last hop up cracked part of my barrel but it worked lol. And yeah I guess thats a good idea ill start drawing it up I could make in it autodesk but that will take hours to make each individual fitting and then animate it but I could do it but for now ms paint will have to do lol.

This is not to scale

Woah, didn't realize how big the chamber was in comparison.
