i havent really been on here in a while so sorry if this has been thought of :)

i've thought about ways of making a cartridge loaded cannon for a year or two now and come up with a few ideas that havent worked. most were way to expensive or two difficult to build.

then i got to thinking what about pistion cartridges. if you made several pistion cannons witha barrel only an inch or two long, with a ball valve at the end with a quick disconect fitting. you could sleve it into another barrel and brace. think anti tank guns or similar. then you could lock the cartridge in. connect an blow gun or any relief valve, lock the pistion in, fire, take the pistion out and hey presto you got a very very quick firing gun. it would be expensive. time consuming but geez its be insane. i plan to draw up major plans later this week and build it soon after. i thinking golf balls or similar. pictures when i get back tonight

any ideas or flaws you can see let me know :)

edit - from the pictures can you see how the pistion cartridge ( imagine a pistion cannon with a inch or two long barrel ) slides into the barrel. then is locked into place ( havent planned this bit yet to much ) then has the trigger plugged in using a quick relase attackment witha ball valve inbetween for safety ??

At my lemonade stand I used to give the first glass away free and charge five dollars for the second glass. The refill contained the antidote

It sounds like it could be made simpler, have a look at my experimentation on the subject here.

very much likes jacks idea but simpler for me to make i think. i haven't made a pistion cannon yet. but i got the idea from a tank or anti airship gun how they load the cartridge into the barrel the closed the door on the barrel and fire. then remove it. it will be fun to make lol take a while and cost a little bit but i cant see any major flaws yet

It seems like a lot of work to have several fully functioning chambers with pistons and pilots etc. How about making the chambers, or cartridges, based on a burst disc design. Simply clamp the burst disc and inject air. Then when loaded in the gun itself, you could have a sharp spring loaded pin device with a release latch or something that pierces the disc causing it to blow...kind of like a revolver hammer. It would be much cheaper and simpler than buying many pilot valves and making pistons etc. If you're going to do that you might as well make a bunch of fully functioning cannons and tape them together.

EDIT: Here is a rendering I did. You can have the pin attached to the bolt and when you pull it back it triggers the disc..OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT
