Well its a bit late as I already bought all the parts except the air tank, regulator and a pressure gauge for the top of the air chamber. And I have already assembled the chamber and barrel but I discovered my 1/2 drill bit was missing so I couldnt mod my sprinkler valve.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Since you're using a paintball bottle, you might want to consider stronger construction for higher pressures, linked with a quick exhaust valve.
A 3/4" QEV can be purchased relatively cheaply from eBay. This has lower flow than a sprinkler valve, but very fast opening. You can use this in conjunction with a smaller higher pressure chamber to achieve required performance.
If you use a ninja paintball tank, you can adjust this to 450 psi without the need for an additional regulator, and this pressure coupled with a relatively tiny chamber and fast valve is more than enough to fire off a t-shirt. You will need stronger construction - PVC won't cut it at these pressures - but on the other hand, the launcher will be more compact.
GGDT will help with virtual modelling before you commit to build.

I have not thought about that even being possible. And sitting here thinking about it im not sure I understand how that would work.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Have you considered using a slide valve as a pilot instead of a blowgun?
That way, you can hook the supply from your reg directly to it, effectively making your sprinkler valve semi-auto.

Ah I got it now, I like the idea for something like a BB gun or the likes but I dont think it has enough volume to launch a shirt any good distance.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Some explanation of how it workshere.Wizard wrote:I have not thought about that even being possible. ... and this is it working in practice:
If you put a reasonable amount of pressure and chamber volume behind it, it should have no problemsWizard wrote:I dont think it has enough volume to launch a shirt any good distance.
A QEV and sprinkler valve work on pretty much the same principle, the different is that a QEV tends to be made to a heavier duty specification. You should be OK with a sprinkler valve, but I would definitely consider a 3 way valve for filling/piloting.Im still trying to figure out those QEV valves but I cant find a 1" one and all my fittings are for 1" with the sprinkler valve I bought. I havent modded it yet because I like the idea of the QEV but are they really that much more efficient?
hectmarr wrote:You have to make many weapons, because this field is long and short life
Not efficient but for a given size way more flow, you probably wont find a 1'' QEV and if you do it will be expensive but you can find dust collector valves witch a basically the same thing but have diaphragm instead of piston still very powerful.Wizard wrote:because I like the idea of the QEV but are they really that much more efficient?
