Australian air gun pvc pipe specs/rating/psi
hi all (forgive me as this is my first post) and i may have to do a lot of searching but.....
most people talk about sched 40 pvc pipe in USA/UK
in aust i have found pvc pipe with stamping of (pressure pipe) PN12 pvc pipe and was wondering what the psi rating wold be?
i think it at 1200 KPA
specs:
nom size 50.0
od dmin: 60.2
od Dmax:60.5
mean bore: 53.7
wall ave: 3.4
could someone give me an idea if this OK at 100 psi
my res chamber is 50mm pipe by 97cm long
Cheers,
Richard
any aussie spudders out there?

There are tons of aussie spudders on here... including me.
Join the anzsga.
It means Pressure number: (pn) 12, or 18, that means it is rated to 12 bar.
Its fine to use.
Good to see another aussie spudder on here.

Yeah there are quite a few aussie spudders on here although we still need more.
SOO CUTE!! OMG!! I COULD JUST LICK YOU!!Insomniac wrote:Hey why am I a goose???? Why not somthing a little more awe inspireing, like an eagle or something? LOL
ok so 12bar =174 psi so, i would be sweet at 100 psi with PN12
(i did use primer and green glue)
OK so what is the "burst" pressure on PN12 or will it go bang at 12bar?
...richard
photos show first gun (big chamber) i have had it 40 psi but not sure on the rating of the 4 inch pipe so i woul duse it (cotst me $80)
oh well that the learning curve , shame as it has a gauge in it....
othe runit is PN 12 so once the glue drys (24 hours) will pump to 100 psi and try it

Bunning’s did it for me!
use the grey colored orbit sprinkler valves works great! $24.95
the other cheaper one i bought was crap (horn effect) $22.95 don’t use them
12 bar pressure pipe a bit pricey at $12 a meter but hey hobbies cost money.......
tried a spud at 60 psi 2 inch barrel but only 500mm long
Worked ok (blew through a old tv cardboard box with the foam inside)
so 2 thick cardboard pieces and 4 pieces of foam.
will attach a 90cm 2in barrel at 100 psi and see what happens!!
PS any body know if the increase in pressure versus muzzle speed is NON linear??

The pipe is rated to burst at 3x its running pressure so 3x12bar=36bar/529psiburst pressure.I get my suplies usualy fomr reece they know be by name and give em the small of cuts which are of no sue to them and they like seeing my guns i make aswell.Bunnings is ohhk but they dont stock large diametre pressure piping. The fittings are priced ok but.

rna_duelers, that's an interesting snip of info there. I wasn't aware that the "burst rating" was 3X the pressure rating. Now I feel less terrified pumping my gun rated to ~260Psi to 60Psi.
I agree that Bunnings doesn't stock much pressure rated piping in chamber worthy diameters. I bought my Pn 18 chamber from a bathroom plumbing store... Forgot the name...

Hey cool i'm new at this and i'm Aussie too!
So Reece and bunnings are a safe bet?
What about Mitre 10/K&D Warehouse?
Anyone checket there?
OHH, does the barrel have to be pressure rated as high as the chamber if at all?

If so then 3/4 pvc may withstand a 1000 psi before bursting?

It is indeed, they use a saftey margin for all PVC at 3x burst(Australian PVC)My uncle told me he is a plumber and metal fabricator and he said i would never get some PN18 pipe to burst with my compressor as i would need a pressure supply of 800psi for it to burst. But dont hold me responsible if you pump a piece of pipe to 500 psi and it bursts they are only safety margins so stick to the rated pressure.
