Oh, another way to do it. Vise and a pipe wrench plus alot of time and effort. I think its pretty self explanatory, just remove the top, and all the gas comes out. Not the safest way to do it, but thats why they invented steel pipes right? Extend the grip, gives more leverage and keeps you away from the gas.

Ok so I have finally managed to drill through the valve - just decided to go for it! Anyway I have 2 questions.
1. From drilling it part of the valve has fallen into the cylinder and you can hear it rolling around. Will it be alright to just leave it in there?
2. If one of these fails does it shatter, split, crack or what?

1. Try to get it out... That's gonna be really annoying lol.
2. I think it would split. But it would be loud.

Despite being annoying is there any risk having it in there?

The main valve core and the pop off safety valve can both be removed with a tire valve tool. The main valve has a plastic ring with an o ring under it to seal against leaks when an appliance is attached. The plastic ring and o ring are just press fit inside. Unscrewing the valve core will pop both of them out for you. Under the valve core is a small restriction hole to limit the max flow from the tank to limit the size of the leak if something goes wrong. With both valve cores removed, the remaining gas can be diluted with air by glowing it out with a blowgun, or simply displace it with water as mentioned above. With both cores out, you can drill the main valve passage much larger. I hope this helps.
If you drop it, the steel tank will dent. Both my large QDV and the small one both have been dropped and have dents. Not everyone firing them keep a good grip for the recoil.
