I've been wanting to make it for ages but I kept putting it off trying to find a simpler way to make the cartridges - now i realed all that time I wasted on R & D could have been spent making a design which involves a little work but whose functionality I can be reasonably sure of. I'm making the piston as we speak, should have a working cartridge by the end of the week

It can't be more efficient than a piston valve that way... also, since the hammer only has to push open a schrader, it doesn't have to be so strong.VH_man wrote:you should make the piston get hit open by a hammer like the airsoft grenade shells. it might work better.... but then, your pengun project worked fine so........

Mopher did you make that if so photo shop kill ms paint.
anyway that looks like it would work great. But the only problem i see is when the piston thing behind the spring is pushed forward the spring will keep it and the cartride in place.

:pottytrain3:
i also worried about this. i would have to experiment with diferent spring tenshions (sp). I think at high pressure with a realtivly heavy projectile, it should work ok. I was thinking a lead slug?pyromaniac wrote:Mopher did you make that if so photo shop kill ms paint.

what if the ehaust was a burst disk and you just poked it with something to exhaust? that should work if you want it to work like a gun.

well thanks for the imput, but im going for a trigger behind the loader. did you look that the link to the maginegun mechanism? i think im going to have like a spring loaded lever with a trigger shape to push it out of place.Acdcmonkey1991 wrote:this is a diagram of what your looking for i think...

I really hate to burst everyones bubble but this project is actually illegal in the vast majority of the world. You see, the precharged cartridges are a great idea and all but they are the equizalent of a rifle, pistol, or shotgun round. It is illegal to construct and use a firearm. This gun is in the eyes of the gov't at least a firearm. The potenial energy is contained in a cartridge the the gun will trigger to release a projectile (basic definition of a firearm). This was actually suggested over at spudtech when it was still up. I'll try to dig out the thread for you guys.
thats why you dont let the cops see. just kiddingSuppressive Fire wrote:I really hate to burst everyones bubble but this project is actually illegal in the vast majority of the world. i dont think it is because acording to the police (in my area) pneumatics are fine. i think its still smart to check though.

Its not just a pneumatic launcher. There is a gun and the pressure source is stored in precharged cartridges. All the gun does is provide a barrel and trigger the cartridge. In a regular luancher the pressure source is connected so it is vented out the barrel and the gun contains a valve which dumps air through the gun and out the barrel. This gun contains the mechanisms to trigger a disposable or reusable pressure source that when depleted is replaced by another. I know it seems like a fuzzy line but when you get to far into the fuzzy our wonderful and fun pastime gets a crapload of flak from the media and the noose of laws tightens even further around or necks. Who knows where you live it might not be illegal, but do yourself a favor and look into it. It'll take 15min and possibly save you jail time. Don't forget freedom of information is a double edged sword. You can learn alot with all the freedom but since all the information was right there they don't let you pleed ignorance.

The only place where this sort of airgun is specifically illegal is the UK, which banned weapons chambered for the brocock air cartridge in 2004 over claims that they were readily converted to firearms.I really hate to burst everyones bubble but this project is actually illegal in the vast majority of the world.
a little background on the air cartridge
air cartridge guns sold in US, and here and here - so tell me, how can a home-made one be illegal?
yep, thats the general ideathink this would work?
no trigger yet

agreed, I make all my diagrams with paintps. paint kicks the crap out of photoshop!!
not as easily re-usable as a schrader, plus I'l like to keep the cartridge as a clean cylinder without threaded unions of larger diameter.what if the ehaust was a burst disk and you just poked it with something to exhaust?
