Adding an o ring to the back of the piston can fix the excessive leakage into the pilot.

You will need some EQ. I found a 1/16th inch or smaller works very well. Drill in the side and angle past the o ring to the pilot.

I fill from the chamber in the Mouse Musket, Dragon, and Golf ball bazooka.

Sometimes a shot of air in the pilot is needed to close and seat the valve. After that rapid fill into the chamber is possible.

Pilot and fill on my golf ball cannon;

I have not posted much on that one because it is all thinwall pipe. It is a low pressure toy and nothing else. It only runs on 30-50 PSI.

Looking at the pictures, it looks more like the seat diameter is very close to the piston.

Can you give us x and y?

It is very close.. I like narrow ratio pistons.. :) They don't need a big pilot to get them to snap open. The bolt is almost the same size as the orifice. :D

Look at the seat diameter in the Mouse Musket. The seat is 1/8th inch from the OD.

The dragon was even a tighter ratio. Piston OD 3 inch. Seat seal diameter 2.8 inches. The pilot had to be bled down to almost nothing before it popped.

When it popped, it was POW. :shock:

Unfortunately the 2.5 inch pipe cap I used for a piston didn't last long.

Try wrapping tape around the piston until it's tight enough that you can barely move it with one finger.

unless you have o-rings there's never need for an equalisation hole.
