diaphram valve shot gun.

well i haven't posted a gun in a long time so i thought id post this one.

iv wanted a shot gun for a long time but i hated how you had to sabot with TP every time you wanted to shoot. so i came up with this idea. i take a old marker cap and drill a hole in the top, plug one end with TP and fill it with bbs then plug the other end. so when you shoot it the cap will act like a real shot gun shell it will fall in flight but the bbs will keep going.

ok thats the ammo now on to the gun. its a diaphram valve piloted by a sprinkler valve. it has a 1"1/4 chamber and a 1/2" barrel. and a grip that i found at the paint ball store for a buck cant beat that.

now i know that your all going to say "wow thats not the cleanest gun" ok it looked ok till i sneezed and hit the primer can with my hand then it spilled all over the gun now it looks like crap. but im going to paint it i just don't know what yet.

now on to the pics

its SO pretty!

that little black dot is the equalization hole

Image
.20 crap bbs.

Image
thats the "shotshell" all three stages of me making it

ok well thats it i hope you like it. if you don't tell me why so i can fix it.

Image
thats around 60 bbs at 15ft

Image
the marker cap hit the can and did that it was at 15ft

Image
i shot this one around 25ft and the can shot 10 more feet.

Image
same shot just the back.

i will have more in the mooring.

It looks good but why did you bend the pilot down? Maybe for a grip / scatter gun look?

JSR may make a comment about the pilot having too much space but it looks cool. How does it perform?

One more question: Why did ask if we wanted to see damage pics? Of course we do.

it performs very nicely its has good power and range. yes thats why the pilot is down like that so it looks more like a shotgun.

That is very cool popo. I like your avatar too! Dad is so cool! :D
I am going to make a cartridge gun too, except I'm going to use a QEV (not the one your selling me) and a cartridge feed for pump action.

But uh, why did you use a diaphragm valve? And why a sprinkler to pilot?? It seems so much bigger than you need...

well i never made one and i had all the parts for it so i thought ahh what the hell. but it is more powerful than a sprinkler so i don't mind it being big.

I was just thinking the same as ammosmoke. A blowgun should be able to pilot this valve quite nicely. By adding a blowgun valve only, the pilot could also be cut down. I sketched a diagram for you.

nice i like it. :D This makes me want to build one. I still havent built a diaphragm valve yet, but i just built a piston valve and it works but i need to fix a leak b4 i post it on spudfiles. Lets see some damage pics. 8)

hmmmm i like that idea but im out of $$ right now so maybe later  . but thats a good idea.

did you glue in the diaphragm? and what material is that.

by th3p0p0
no i did not glue it. and its this stuff at aces its called "rubber sheet packing" or sum thing like that. and aces is the only place i have seen it. im glad that you like it and it was very easy to make so if you have any more :?: about how i made it send me a PM.

Thats a pretty sweet gun, nice work. I might have to try to make a diaphragm valve since i haven't had much luck with pistons yet. :? Would you mind posting what the diaphragm looks like on the inside, or maybe a schematic please?

no i don't mind at all here is how it works.

Image
ok thats the end of the barrel and the top of the union.

Image
then thats the rubber disk just barely on the end of the barrel.

Image
then i pull up the threaded part of the union and push the rubber disk down all the way.

Image
then i thread on the pilot and fill

Image
now that its threaded all the way i fill it and when i pilot it it sucks all the air out from behind the rubber and sucks it back with the air firing the gun.

get it?? if not just say so and ill will try again

yeah, makes perfect sense, thanks :D I might try to make one, it doesn't seem too hard, i hope.

Ok, sounds good, I'll probably get a few parts for it this weekend and I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again! :) How would you compare its performance with a piston?
