I have recently been looking into buying a paintball grenade launcher because they are really interesting. I know the basics, the user charges the grenade with co2 or compressed air, then they load it into the launcher (either on the gun or a launcher just for grenades), then pull the trigger sets the valve in the grenade launching paintballs at high velocity. I was thinking this could be a cartridge type pneumatic. I was wondering what type of system the grenades use (pretty sure they are coaxials). If some willing member (JSR or MrC) are willing to explain I would much appreciate it.

mabey its a piston valve, but where can the chamber be? it looks like the barrel is most of it, kinda pricey
middle of the page are vids that explain it.

sorry, i didn't see in your pot where you said you know basicly how they work. there is no detail as to exactly how it works, but i do know that the chamber and firing is very similar to the grenade they sell.

Personally i've never paintballed before as it's not that big in NZ but i'll see what I can do.
*Researching*
*Coffee Break*
*Hmm*
*Clueless*
Well when the trigger is pulled it somehow releases the air from the nade into the paintball slots and out the paintballs go. How it does that i'm not so sure

The launchers use a shell that is filled up with green gas, baisically propane with silicon added in. The shells have a pressure plate on the back and the trigger is hooked to a firing pin. When the trigger is pulled the pin hits the pressure plate, releasing the gas, propelling the projectiles. We use them alot in airsoft. They work great for clearing rooms in cqb and can be used to shoot a nerf rocket.

http://rap4.com/grenademanual.htm scroll down to the bottom for a diagram of the internals
Basically like a piston valve that uses a sear trigger instead of a pilot. In this case the sear is some ball bearings.

Yeah, basically self contained shells.
Airsoft grenades work the same way, theres nothing in the gun but a hammer and spring to fire the shell.
