As usual, I haven’t heard if this TAILS will be available to the general public. I’m guessing no, because someone could probably shoot someone with it.
... as opposed to firearms

I could do worse with a common ink pen. I mean really? The only reason it wouldn't be is because people would probably be climbing buildings and nobody likes that.

The person who wrote that article obviously had nothing to go on other than the photo, which is obviously staged.
I would think that some of the members of this forum could build a much more efficient grappling hook gun at about half of the size that that monster of a gadget takes up.

its on Mythbusters season 5 episode 17, jamie picks it up and shoots it over a building and later in the episode they build a 3000 psi Nitrogen powered gun to shoot a hook out of a car and whilst testing it shoots 10lbs of steel through a mattress and into the wall at 2/3rds of the power
There are smaller versions of this launcher, I remember coming across it when I was trying to convert my first pneumatic to launch a grapple hook.
Edit: Oh actually this is another company, can't find the website any more, may have been ResQmax or Plumett...
My attempt was pretty pathetic a the time, but it worked quite well considering the low pressure I was using.
Mine wasn't a captive piston either.
That launcher should be made into a bullpup version.

Rescuemax version.

Nice recoil, although I'm confused about what one could do in that situation, with just a line across a gorge...
