Let me know what you guys think. A comment was posted about needed some sort of penetration round and i do agree. I just don't know how i would go about or what would be the best option. All my ammo is 2" and i think because it's so large it makes a bigger punch and not so much penetration, if that makes sence. Now smaller objects or less dense objects the potato is fine but heavy thick metal objects like the ps3 makes it a smidge difficult.

Not bad, not bad.
You need the fabled moar powah to get serious penetration from the blunt low density projectiles you're using though, even USG's compound rounds are quite light for their surface area.
Alternatively, find yourself a 3/4" or 1" barrel and I might be persuaded to donate something like this to your cause, which will cut through a playstation type target like a hot knife through butter.

Ok, so first get your hands on something like this:
Needs to be 3-4" long, about 1/4" diameter.
Let me know the exact length and diameter.
I also need the exact inner diameter of your barrel measured with a caliper, a 1" barrel is a better idea. If it's 1.004" or a bit less it makes my work much easier.
With any luck given the fact that you're firing at relatively low velocities the fins and pusher plates will be re-usable.

ok i will have to hunt down a caliper let me work on that. Are they relativley cheap, ive never had to look at one to purchase, i have a large tool shop that i know will carry one. I'll check them out monday after work.

I would be very surprised if they were over a dollar each.

oh ok, for some reason i assumed more. so it will be strong enough to penetrate and do damage or just penetrate through?

You never showed what you were using for a cannon in this video. Why??? Also, has anyone suggested that you try golf balls with a 1 1/2 inch sdr21 barrel??? I have put a golf ball through both sides of a 55 gallon steel drum. My suggestion is try some golf balls!!

Depends on what you mean by "damage".
Lets take the playstation as a target example. What the dart would do is focus the available energy and make a clean 1/4" hole straight through it.
If you're looking to make a 2" diameter hole through the thing, you're going to have to up the energy considerably. Staying with pneumatics you'd need a longer barrel, bigger chamber, faster valve, more pressure resulting in the sort of power that would make carrying out these firings in someone's back yard is going to be impractical at best.
If you want a mid-way compromise, see if you can get your hands on some
1/2" steel rod as a penetrator

He reviews it in detail in the previous video.

I would like to take credit for said youtube comment.
Now you've all covered the problem of the round, but what about the backstop? I know one of the worst feelings is having your round go through and beyond the target in a residential area without anything to stop it.
If you're not worried about retrieving your round from the backstop I would suggest a broadhead archery target.
something like this

But that is just a suggestion.

I know he reviewed it in previous video, I was trying to suggest he could have shown the cannon for a few seconds in this video. Its kinda like sex without an orgasm.. :dontknow:

Rather it's like the "money shot" without looking at the male member

hahaha yes the money shot comment awesome hahah.. Ok i hear all of you. And yeah i would like a 1/4 blasting through that would be good, with the laser sight we can put a few rounds across then punch it with the potato maybe creating a tear in the object. So that 1/4 dart sounds like the way to go. As back stop i have a shop behind me so nobody is there during filming. I also have a concrete wall as you can see, unfortunatley the idiots who put the wall up didn't fill the cinder blocks. So i would like to have a heavy duty back stop. kotabuuki So that yellow jacket box would be good, it would also be awesome to use to show you guys how acurate we get with the laser sight. Now i'm guessin gthe 1/4 dart would not rip through the yellow jacket box? You guys and ideas are making me excited for the future of this show... The only sad thing is i don't know how much bigger i can go with the cannon being where i live
for now i will make the best out of it..

The fins would most likely be stripped off while penetrating the target (hopefully remaining intact enough for you to re-use them) meaning the penetrator will start to tumble and be much less effective. Still, you have to consider what happens if you miss the target. A box full of old magazines or phone books 12 inches or so deep should be more than enough as a backstop.
