Last week i started a small summer project, a vehicle mounted airsoft gun.
A gun that you load with 90mm preloaded pneumatic cartridges.
Each cartridge consist of a 400mm long 90x5mm steel tube with threaded end caps, and a coaxial piston-valve that is piloted through a burstdisk.
The burstdisk is going to be punctured by a spring loaded, tube shaped firing pin.
Here is a few pictures during construction of the cartridges.

Must be nice to have all that equipment to build things on hand. Very nice job. Now i know who to go to have them make me some custom penetrating rounds for my cannon.

Oh fap fap fap!!!

That looks w-a-a-a-a-a-y overkill, but it's your style, love it!

Reminds me of the big bore Vargas carts: http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/vargas- ... 21275.html

I'm guessing the finished product is going to look something like this?

Surrounded by snow of course :D

Yes its definitely overkill. :D
I will probably mostly use them with 10-15bar pressure, but i believe that they would be safe to use with quite high pressure (tubing is rated to 220bar) .
And you are also quite right about the gun, this is the type of gun that was mounted on the car when it was in the military.

And here is the car (the picture is not mine):

I did think of making cartridges the same size as the original, but they where 920mm long, but the weight is almost the same, the prototype round is about 7kg, and the longer version slightly more.

I was about to say, you'll probably turn it down for skirmishing but for some damage shots it would be a shame not to give it a go in the 100 bar range. It won't put your legendary hybrid to shame but will still poke holes in some fairly thick stuff :D

By the way, how are you filling these things? Some kind of fill rig that either attaches to the mouth or completely encloses the cartridge?

To start with i am going to use a counterbored schrader valve.
I am not sure if schraders really are up to 100 bar, but you seems to use them at 50-60bar without much problem?

Personally I have used them to 58 bar with no issues. No reason why it shouldn't take 100 easily, have a look here: http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/the-fai ... 15393.html

Gippeto had abused schraders extensively and found them to be very hardwearing :)

Some more work done and a few more pictures. :)
Now all the parts for all ten cartridges are finished, so i just started assemble them.
The threaded schrader valves i could find locally was to long (you can see one in the 4th picture) and i didn't had time to order from over sea.
So i bought 50pcs of tire-valves with rubber, and machined a threaded bushing out of brass that i could braze the brass parts from the tire-valves into.

Would be interesting to see if you could pilot it with the schrader :)
