A Quick Pneumatic Build

Nothing fancy, but I threw together this sprinkler valve pneumatic mostly with parts I had laying around. It is intended to be used with a variety of barrels. The one in the picture is a short golf ball sized barrel made from a piece of a whisker pole from a sailboat that I used to own. I figure that one is easy to take along fairly unobtrusively. I also plan to use this gun with a longer (72") 1" EMT barrel.

The valve is a modded 1" Orbit jar top and the pilot a cheap shop blow gun. I carved a quickie grip from a maple branch that was laying in the yard.

I got tired of fiddly fill valves and have started using quick disconnects. I have an old Silca track pump that I removed the air chuck from and replaced it with a male quick connect. It works very nicely. I plan on using the same quick connect setup on my hybrids both with manometric and syringe filling.

I have not yet chrono'ed this gun, but after a few test shots it seems to work quite well. It won't rival the performance of my hybrids or anything, but I figure I can use this one in places the hybrids would raise too many eyebrows.

Not bad :)

For a performance boost you could always sandwich a burst disk in that camlock fitting.

I was going to try it with and without a burst disk today, but the woods were crawling with folks out for a hike or run. I did fire it once with a golf ball before my daily trail run. I fired it a bit off of vertical and lost sight of the golf ball before the apex at 80 psi. It was a low light and a gray sky though so visibility wasn't optimal. I wanted to do some test shots with the chrony, but as I said the woods were full of people.
