Filling a piston from 'the other side'

Is it possible to fill a coax, piston spud-launcher from the front (barrel exit end) of the chamber.
Would this actuate the valve, if there was a fairly decent equilisation hole?

how a standard barrel sealing piston valve works is by first pressurizing behind the piston to seal up the barrel, so air doesnt leak down, if you attempt to pressurize the other side first, the piston would not seal and air would just leak down the barrel
so no you can't pressurize a standard barrel sealing piston valve from the front of the valve

It would work only if you had a spring holding the piston against the barrel (that would also serve as a handy bumper, but cut down on performance) and you filled it really slowly.

I seem to be able to. Actually, my 2" valve refuses to be filled from the pilot side.
