Well it all depends on the exact laws where you live. Where I live it is only illegal if it is removable.

out here in australia. scilencer are most defiantly illegal.
remember yous spud gun is a fire arm by the most basic of definitions.

ie. any thing that fires a projectile using any form of propulsion, ie venting of an exhast ... combustions, the use of any gas under pressure..... pneumatic.

they are fire arms.

In the US, it is considered a Silencer if it could be fitted to a firearm, even if it had to be destroyed in the process, and even if it would only last a single shot, and it lowers the volume by as little as 1dB.
By those definitions, I am pretty sure that carrying a soda bottle around could get you in serious legal problems.
Speaking of which, how do they decide when to arrest you for carrying a soda bottle around, that you happen to be using for a silencer. Even potatoes have been used, semi-effectively as silencers...

It's a catch-all offense, sort of like "driving too fast for conditions". It's an ambivalent "crime" and gives law enforcement an excuse to pull you over or hassle you anytime they feel like it.

Oh, good! That makes me feel safe.
Alert Spudders! If you are carrying anything when a police officer passes, hide it immediately. Failure to do so will result in a felony charge. Hey, even your little baby brother would suppress the noise some. IS NOTHING SACRED?

lol, anyways...
Ya, suppressors/silencers are totally illegal just about everywhere (without proper licensing) but as long as it looks harmless and you are never caught with it on the end of a cannon, you should be fine. Your neighbors will probably be quite happy in fact.

Hey in there oppinion if your not doing anything stupid with them, they wont spoil you fun...as most cops out here built them when they where younger in fact i know a cop around my parts that still makes them.

its not like you can walk into a servo and rob the place with one.

That's kind-of the key. However, if you have paranoid jackasses for neighbors, one "official" disturbance call from them could force the cops to take some kind of action. If you're lucky, they will give you a warning or even blow it off...if your not lucky they may confiscate your guns and/or press charges if they apply. Really depends on your local community attitudes about such things.

I am tempted to make a silencer for a firearm that looks like an ordinary object.
Banana silencer?Aerosol can silencer?

Aerosol can silencers are actually quite standard. I think that one of Chigurh, in No Country for Old Men used welded together aerosol cans. Maybe if you left the wrapping on it though? Why not use a Nalgen though? Or some other type of water bottle, maybe one of those new Stainless Steel ones.

If you live in the US, I think it is illegal to have a silencer for anything. In Ohio you can be arrested if you have a silencer on a rubber band and you are flinging bits of paper. Just say it is a barrel extenson
