really 15dollars more. at my local wall mart they sell the electric ones for 16dollars 5dollars more than the piezo.

The average price from all three of the hardware stores by me (homedepot, fleet farm, menards) is around $30-35.

Is copper pipe ok to use in a hybrid, is it strong enough?

Yes it is strong enough but it is very expensive in diameters above 1in.
what would be the cheapest pipe that is strong enough? is mcmaster cheap I looked on there but I have no idea about prices for steel.

Malleble galvanised iron should be avaiable in your local hardware store and will be fine at mixes up to 7x
Just use standard SCH 40 welded steel pipe, they should have it at any hardware store, even small ones. It is quite cheap, and unless you're going well over 10x, you don't need to worry about it breaking. Copper is shiny and has many characteristics that make it better than steel for some applications, but it's also more expensive, and difficult to find in larger sizes.
