Harness the power of precision mixtures of pressurized flammable vapor. Safety first! These are advanced potato guns - not for the beginner.

Anyone heard of things like these?
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farmi ... 617916.htm
The Ultimate in Pest Control.

The Rodenator R3 uses a proprietary method to proportion, compress and inject the gas mixture in to the tunnels of burrowing pest animals. The mixture of the gases is at a very low rate of liquefied propane gas (LPG) and compressed oxygen (O2).

This mixture produces a compressed ratio of LPG and oxygen at a consistent measured pressure into the tunnel system. Upon combustion, the resulting concussive force or shockwave travels throughout the tunnel system at over 10,000 psi. The resulting massive concussion is sufficient to humanely exterminate the targeted pest.
It will often collapse the tunnel system to render it un-useable to any future tenants.

The new R3 model is activated from a switch on an 8m lead to make it very safe and user friendly.

The combustion of LPG and Oxygen produces carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor and is non-toxic to the environment.

The package includes;(See Photo)
- 15m twin gas hose
- LPG regulator and gauges
- Oxygen regulator and gauges
- Safety goggles
- Ear muffs
Certainly is interesting.

Just to be clear, this is a commercial product used for extermination much like an air rifle. As long as we don't discuss about using spudguns in this manner, i'm sure we will stay clear of a locked thread.

Fascinating :) instant roast rabbits ;)

If I'm not mistaken they used this idea in Vietnam to clear out VC tunnels, and they also use long plastic bags with a fuel/air mixture for minefield clearance, creating an overpressure which sets off the mines.

Sounds like a great excuse to blow up my yard!
I'm a little surprised it's legal though because combution cannons are illegal in NZ. If you put some drain pipe at one end of the tunnel with a diameter about that of a rabbit...

Pest control by means of a gas explosion. Cool.

Reminds me of emptying 10L @ 30 bar into a hole in the wall at a friends house. Since then we didn't hear noises in the wall anymore.

Actually, it's probably more sane. You likely want the tunnels collapsed anyway, it's efficient, effective and very discriminatory.

That is, it'll only kill whatever's in the tunnels (as opposed to using poisons, which will be eaten by other animals, either directly or indirectly - and which probably wouldn't have enough effect.)

Unblocking a sink with a pneumatic might well damage the drain - it's not pressure piping. After all, it is why they call it DWV - Drain, Waste and Vent.

As far as solutions to rabbit problems, personally, I want to see the day they bring this one onto the market.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

These things have been around for awhile.

Looks like great fun, but I've heard about guys starting BIG (as in call the fd..out of control) grass fires with them.

force or shockwave travels throughout the tunnel system at over 10,000 psi
Really...

As for poisons, in NZ the the poison used to kill the possums can't really harm much, as the only animals that might eat dead possums are invasive as well so it is both directly and indirectly doing its job. (Just as an example for cases in which poison is not all bad)...

As for this, i have my doubts about how humane it really is, as EVEN if the shock wave is 10 000psi strong the holes tend to be fairly large and the pressure will reduce, so there is a good enough chance a rabbit is knocked out and then suffocates as it is buried alive...

No, the hole was made by a rodent.

Actually, blowing out the whole wall (it was a weak, hollow wall) was my second intention. He would be expanding his house so that wall had to go anyway.
Too bad it didn't work. Next time I'll use a QEV. :D

I've done it, and now, to complete the collection of alternative launcher uses I will have to get one of these for "pest control".
