1 Inch Hybrid

Chamber: 1" x 6" Sch 40 steel pipe nipple (5.82 CI)
Barrel: 1/2" x 60" Type L Copper pipe (11.78 CI)
Mix Tank: 2" x 12" Sch 40 PVC (188.5 CI)
Fuel: Propane (4.03% mix)
Mixes Attempted: 2x (so far that is)
Special Features: The second and best GEN II hybrid.

The main inspiration behind this cannon came from DR's first GEN II hybrid.

The original hybrid design was effective but way too sensitive to use happily. The problem was that with a standard hybrid a fluxuation of even 1 psi could make the mixture unignitable. This meant you needed a very accurate gauge. The gen II hybrid eliminates the need for all the complications by compressing a mixture, already at the proper propane to air ratio, with water in a separate chamber.

DR's cannon was a great design bur it had a major flaw: it was made of PVC. I have overcome this problem of the low pressure rating by building the entire cannon from either brass, stainless steel, or galvanized steel. I have also made some improvements to the original design. For example, the original design used 5 1/4" ball valves, i have consolidated this to 2 valves on the cannon and 2 on the propane meter. I have also built on onboard propane meter so you don’t have to use the QC. My version also includes a large gauge that records the maximum pressure achieved in the combustion.

My cannon utilizes ~$1500 of used parts all bought for ~$50 at the local flea market.

I believe the highest compression achieved by DR was 4 atmospheres. With this cannon I hope to probably hit 6-8 atmospheres.

Nice hybrid Spudstuff.
But I am not sure of what do you plan on shooting with it?
Its well built, but is a hybrid at that scale worth it?
But thats just me cause I like big cannons.
On the PVC part is that an air chamber with a regualator?
And for about $50 dollars you did a great job.Is it really 1500?

Damn very nice! I would actually like a smaller hybrid than a large one. shoot some marbles at like 1 inch plywood.
