Vera suffers a setback. :(

Harness the power of precision mixtures of pressurized flammable vapor. Safety first! These are advanced potato guns - not for the beginner.

IIRC, 20 meters long, generating only around 500psi, with a budget of I think $10k

it's only a 2X(*), but I need heated gases to push the mass flows through the breech. Cold gas won't do it.

(*) Nominally. When we hydrostat the chamber we'll have strain gages all over it to see how it responds. If it does well, we may be able to take it to 3X.

And yesterday Vera suffered another setback.

I'm not entirely sure what happened, but there's been a policy change. Our welders are no longer cleared to operate in my area and Vera is too large to take down to their area (she won't fit through the door).

So right now work is at a standstill until we can get some paperwork in place. The paperwork shouldn't be a big deal, but it will take some time to get in place.

ARGH!

Fracking safety Nazis.

edit: @Ramses.... Budget is a funny thing. I've spent close to $20k on Vera ($5k just on nuts and bolts!) but that's because I had a lot of spare parts at my disposal and my labor costs are coming from a different pot of money. Were somebody to build her from scratch and have to pay for the labor, she'd probably cost on the order of $400k.
