Excellent work, most impressive skills. And chuck on a few more compliments to your taste, I'll sign for them.

Well I had help this time around so I wasn't busy filming, creating the burst disks, manning the valves, preparing the ammo, preparing the targets etc etc... It's amazing what a bunch of helpful friends can do for a good day of shooting!
Here's some teasers... More photos and another quality Mobile Chernobyl productions video to follow!!
All shots were at 10X finally, had the power to run my mighty craigslist special compressor...
First shot of the day - Golf ball vs. street sign at appx. 20 yards. The hole is a good bit bigger than the golf ball... and it nicely tore and wrapped a piece around the back!
Golf Ball vs 7 CD drives lined up domino's fashion - this is the first one
And getting a bit ambitious... we've found the maximum penetration of a golfball at about 1500-1600 fps - not quite through, but 1/8" ::EDIT:: - upon further review, it was actually 3/16", so this may have had a much better chance with 1/8" ::/EDIT:: cold rolled plate steel
The dent is impressive, but more impressive is this freeze frame from the high speed - captures the golfball disintegrating and it's metal core sparking against the steel plate.
All in all... another very good day of shooting... we have MUCH better stuff planned for the near future (within the month) now that all the kinks are being worked out. I can't vouch enough for how awesome a semi-autonomous fueling system is.
One thing I'm thrilled about with the latest video - the camera guy was a alot better at setting it up than I was, and in some of the high speed shots you can see a white streak for one frame - the golf ball. I don't exactly know why... but this makes it much cooler visually to watch! It doesn't seem like I placed some majik powda' in the target and dubbed in a gun sound when I detonated it lol.

At first I thought this was a hard drive and proceeded to spit golf balls before realising it was a CD drive. Nonetheless, very impressive! I love getting email updates for this thread.

LOL! Funny story actually, it very nearly was a hard drive. and I can almost guarantee if I had shot it cast aluminum side first, it would be similar damage (I will have to test that to back up my words, but I'm pretty confident!)...MrCrowley wrote:At first I thought this was a hard drive and proceeded to spit golf balls before realising it was a CD drive. I had set up a raid0 set of old WD hard drives in my computer for video postprocessing rendering... Well one day I go to read a video off of it (some of my original HS footage actually) and all I could get on my desktop was "File corrupted" for EVERY file on it!!! I'm shitting bricks now and pissed cause that would mean I've just lost nearly 30GB consisting of every video I've done up to this point in my life!
So a few months go by, I just leave it in my HDD rack in my case... not thinking about it... One day I decide to pull it out and hook it up to my USB-SATA converter, well looky here! all my videos are now un-corrupted!! a quick backup later and I have that HDD sitting in storage now.
But if I come by an old PATA HDD I will certainly blast it.
I'm going to need to start investing in 1" bearings now with some UHMW sabots lol...

Now you're talking! Should be enough to make it through the steel plate.I'm going to need to start investing in 1" bearings now with some UHMW sabots lol...
I would also consider 0.75" bearings, and a simple cup sabot for a handfull of 0.177" BBs...

Dammit Gun Freak, just build 1 mini hybrid just to say that you have, and then you don't have to make any more. I mean come on... You have a combustion right?Gun Freak wrote:That's all I'm saying!jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Pneumatics are the best and hybrids are inferior

SOOOOOOOOONNNN!!!!!
Anyway I think we should stop polluting mobile chernobyl's thread with current lack of hybrid prototype in the works.
On that note, when can we expect this video?

Looking forward to it
Shame the barrel diameter is a little large, would have gladly made up some sabots and penetrating projectiles to see them in action.

I have a bunch of old 1/2" HSS drill bits which which I've been working on a "high tech - Ghetto" APFSDS type design with a properly placed CP and CG for stable flight.
I have a pretty good concept designed up in solidworks right now using static analysis for verifying the CP, while CG in a cad program is very easy to find if all density's are defined.
A properly discarding sabot is the only challenge that remains.
My goal would be to do a small production run and make about 5 or so of them, and test them against progressively tougher targets.
If you can chuck up 1.75" plastic round stock and would like to mill something for me I'd me more than happy to outsource it to you, as a fellow spudder and all
However in the mean time - the most pressing parts I need to make are pictured below in a revised drawing. Some of you will notice this because you were the ones that complained about the originals Well the original barrel clamps have proved to be insufficient at holding it back even during light payloads like a golf ball - so before I put anything heavier in, I'll need some legit clamps made up - I think I'm going to try and have these waterjetted or I'll just mil them at school.
