First hybrid, help make it a good one

I'm new here and this is actually my first post on the forums but I had what I thought was a decent query... I'm wanting to mod my steel construction pneumatic into a hybrid (found plenty of info, you guys rock) and was wondering on the safety and well possibility of making it a breach loading semi-auto as well. was going to run a standard spring fed mag system. Wasn't sure how safe it would be, would appreciate some feedback.

Where's the burst disk? Mags are pointless because of the reload times of everything. 1 shot per minute would be very optimistic for your usual run of the mill hybrid.

ok thank you. you killed my bubble but if it really is only plausable to get about a shot a minute out of a hybrid I'll leave my pneumatic alone and just make a hybrid cannon. thanks much.

Sorry to be a bubble popper.
You could still have these things and may be able to beat 1 shot per minute with a piston hybrid like fnords (I think that's his name). You'll lose some power but you could have a bolt action that wouldn't be useless.
It all depends how fast you can fill the chamber with the correct fuel/air ratio. Methinks premixed fuel and air in a separate chamber so you should have to worry about one gauge and ball valve. With that setup firing without fiddling around with the bolt maybe 1 shot per 15 seconds. Although that could be a little optimistic...

You can get more than 1 shot per minute if you make a mechanical burst disc that can be reseated after each shot. People usually call them piston valves, but the idea seems to be more like a mechanical burst disc to me at least. If you include mapp gas and an o2 tank on the gun, it will be fully self contained and won't need chamber flushing after each shot, because you can compensate for it by adding a bit more o2 each fueling. This makes it fast because with the o2 you won't need to use compressed air for loading up.
Include fuel meters for both tanks and your cycle time will be no slower than any advanced combustion. Faster actually because you won't have to worry about chamber flushing.

Have you built a standard advanced combustion? I think that would be a good exercise for you before tackling a full semi hybrid. There's a lot more to it than you might think.

I have to advise directly against that at this point for the original poster. I wanted to do the same thing, but it can be horribly dangerous. If you don't have flash arrestors and check valves in the line, as well as a burst disc safety valve at the end of the storage tank, you are asking for injury. I'm no expert, but it just sounds dangerous. I'd rather keep the gasses in their original bottles and meter them individually.

moonbogg knows what hes talking about on the piston hybrid but i think you should build at least one conventional hybrid before trying to go big(larda is the exception to this rule) so that you know what you are dealing with

See I'm the opposite I say go for it, forget about people saying you should start simple, just make sure you know about the right materials to use and the right safety measures to take. There's an awful lot of other people's experience you can learn from on here.
I also reckon it's perfectly possible to go for a premixed tank of fuel/air AS LONG AS you build in the correct safety measures. I'd definately build in a burst disc and I'd put the tank under the barrel with a burst disc at the muzzle end of the tank. Run the fuel/air mix through an adjustable regulator to give consistancy of shots.
Remember though that you'll either have to have the fuel/air mix in the tank at considerably higher pressure than your firing pressure, or a very large tank, or you'll have to be content with a few shots before refueling.

No offence, but if that's your real name, I feel sorry for you, and if it's not, it's really not appropriate for this forum.
Either way, and no offence intended, it's probably a good idea to get in contact with the Admins and take on an different alias.

Username aside, I've never seen anyone do a hybrid using a burst disk holder similar to the one used on
Sgort87's QCTBDC pneumatic, a design which would vastly speed up reloading. If you're set on doing a hybrid, and you're prepared to put some effort in, that would be a good way to go about making it more practical..

Thats what my GUT tells me as well! Its always fun to go for it and aim high. I just don't want the guy to blow his eye brows off or have the premix tank loaded in the house and have it somehow blowout the burst disc with his little sister standing infront of it...at eye level.

Thank you for the encouragement and as for the name I will think about having it changed. though this will be the only place it isn't my name, heck it's even my name for pirates online, and it's through disney lol.
