busy with 10X hybrid (still in the design phase)

Harness the power of precision mixtures of pressurized flammable vapor. Safety first! These are advanced potato guns - not for the beginner.

Ok now that I finally understand how hybrid fueling works I think it is high time I start on building one. The part I am still little fuzzy about is building these things strong enough to withstand the shock wave upon ignition anyhow I got a idea in my head and I would like to get a seal of approval from you guys BEFORE I start. like I said I am still in the design phase anyhow here is my idea for a chamber it is going to be composed from a thin shell of steel with a thick inside of A356 aluminum...

ughh I am crap at explaining anything, on to a diagram

Image

the wall thickness of the aluminum is going to be 20mm thick I added the fiscal properties of A356 aluminum at the bottom

my question in short is: will this be strong enough for a 10X hybrid

and like most of us, I have already tried my hand at modeling this cannon in HGDT I am hoping it turns out close to this

Image

properties of A356
Density 2.67 g/cc 0.0965 lb/in³
Tensile Strength, Ultimate 234 MPa 33900 psi
Tensile Strength, Yield 165 MPa 23900 psi 0.2% offset
Elongation at Break 3.5 % 3.5 % in 50 mm
Modulus of Elasticity 72.4 GPa 10500 ksi (Tension)
Poisson's Ratio 0.33 0.33
The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!

my estimated burst pressure of the aluminum alone: 14,700 psi. Estimated safety factor for 10x: ~14.7. Do you feel like stepping it 50x with a safety factor of 3?

How are you buying the Aluminum, as tube or as bar and then machining it?

:D :D you will have to wait and see, but I guarantee that I will keep you guys in the loop throughout the entire manufacturing process

50X would be cool but I do not have a source of air at that that pressure that is why I am limited at a 10X mix but I do intend to leave the option open to allow higher mixes

you got me all exited now, I think I am going to start on this next weekend if time permits

PS. Thank you for calculating the burst pressure for me
