1'' black iron pipe pressure test

I just pressure tested a piece of seamed black iron pipe for burst pressure. My setup was two caps and a 1''x2'' pipe nipple. One of the caps had a 1/4''npt hole in it for the 0-5000psi pressure gauge and also a 1/4''x28 hole in it for the grease zerk. I filled it with manual transmission oil and then capped it tight and proceeded to fill the rest of the way with grease. I made it to 4ksi and held for a few minutes without any sign of stress. I hope my testing helps those of you out there who are curious about the pressure of black iron pipe. Keep in mind this was the cheap seamed stuff from Lowes. If anyone has any questions about my methods or findings please ask.

I believe Gipetto has also pressure tested some black fittings, but its good to see another member who has access to pressure testing materials.
Any plans for some high pressure black iron guns?

yea I finished a 1.5'' chamber burst disk hybrid and shot it a few times at 5x but wasnt happy with the irregularities in the stungun/sparkplug system. I think the sparkplug had too much internal resistance. Im going whole hog now and just planning on a piston hybrid. Hoping for a fridge compressor and maybe 20x handheld. From what I have seen and heard I dont think that is far fectched.

Did you mic the system before and after?
Are you planning on allowances for fatigue?
Ditto for moments?
There's much more to a scale hydro than "did it burst?"....

DHall, I dont know what your refering to when you say "mic the system". I didnt allow for fatigue or moments and would appreciate your explanation of what you mean(would you please elaborate). As well i do not plan on using the pipe and fittings on any gun that can develop 5ksi as this was just a test of A: when put under 5ksi B: did the system fail.

Basically he is asking if the metal bent at all during the test. Use a micrometer and see if the pipe is larger in diameter after the test. If the size changed, repeated use at that pressure will lead to failure.
