Hi all. Been trying to get my head around hybrids as im into paintball but it is imposable to get co2 fills around here so been running off 12 grams using nelson pumps... did get a dive cylnder on a grant but then because my dad wanted to do the first fill and f**ked it up as he flash filled it and the fill nipple because unatached to the adaptor he is now scared of it and will not let me use it..... damn parents
ANYWAY! I wanna make a hybrid paintball gun due to the effecincy due to the cost of propane and the design is coming along. BUT.... what does it mean when people are using a 2x mix or a 9x mix. Is this 9x as much propane to 1x air? Does it affect idle pressure? Please help :S
Also in my design the chamber has two inputs. An air input and a propane input and at the current time it does work on paper but because i have no experience with hybrids im not sure if the chamber has to be "clean" before refilling it again. Does it matter that there is burned up old gas in the chamber when you refill it?
Thanks in advance!
What does the "x" of the hybrid mix mean!?

Also, why a paintball gun, who are you trying to kill?

It would probably break the PB before it gets out the barrel

I think you'd be better off using propane's vapor pressure in a pneumatic for simplicity's sakekillerbanjo wrote:

I love lamp
Well, if you sabot the paintballs and use a 10X mix, the vapourised remains of the paintball should make everyone on the field bleed. [/sarcasm]
Don't use a hybrid, a 1X mix (air pressure at sea level, 1 bar) generates 100 PSI. 5X (5 times air pressure at sea level, 5 bar) generates ~500 PSI.
So if I were you, use a paintball gun, there's no way you can match the consistancy, accuracy and rate of fire with a homemade1
1 I know it can be done, but without a fair bit of experience, and a mech that doesn't break balls, it won't happen in a hurry.

PVC Arsenal 17 is putting together a combustion launcher with the similar aim of reducing HPA/CO2 costs, worth checking out.

The Tippmann C3 is a regular combustion gun. It's not a hybrid in any way, shape or form. And even as a standard combustion, it's plenty fast enough for a paintball gun.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

Remember that's a factory made gun, I personally can't see someone building a conventional combustion that will match any commercial device.
I also look forward to PVC Arsenal's combustion, but I wouldn't call that conventional in any way. There's also a pump action combustion in the combustion showcase, if you want to take inspiration from it.
