Anyone thought about using torches like these as chambers for cannons?
I have two in my backyard, about 1.5" in diameter with a more typical 'chamber' looking shape. Seems like stainless steel to me although it has some minor surface rust.
The wick fitting threads in to a 3/8" NPT-like thread that's quite short (about 3 threads) and the lid seems riveted between this thread in the centre and something else as the lid can turn yet the thread doesn't indicating the thread may be attached to the main body somehow. Both these issues would make the lid and thread unsuitable for hybrid use so they would be removed and a plug epoxied in place.
The rod/stick (about 12mm diameter) for planting the torch in the ground is hollow for about 1m where it has some threads on the end that attaches it to a slightly shorter solid rod. Not sure If I'd use the hollow rod at all or use another barrel of my choice. Where the rod attaches to the main torch body, I would cut off about an inch from the body and epoxy a union on the remaining rod. Oh and I'd need to drill through the main body where it attaches to the rod as the main body is meant for holding oil.
Can't tell how thick the body is, probably only about 1mm but I assume this would be fine for 5x mixes.
Anyway I'm just throwing the idea out there, it's not like I need another hybrid but it might be a nice one-day-project this summer.
Edit:
Why? 'coz. It could also make a sexy hybrid chamber too, perhaps sexy enough that Gun Freak will require the need of his balls and pick them up off the ground and build one.

I don't see why not really. Make sure it is seamless if you take it to 5x or there abouts. It could be a great source for a ready made hybrid chamber (well, almost ready made). If nothing else, it could be a really quick and easy way to make an oxy/propane cannon. You wouldn't have to fiddle around making the chamber seal for pressurized mixes.

Back on subject, many of those have a lift off top or cheesy bayonet thread on the top that won't hold together with much of any significant pressure. Some fill with oil directly in the tank and others use a drop in tank inside. I have not seen any that will take much pressure on the top.
They are often referred to as Tiki Torches. They sometimes use Citronella oil to repel bugs.

Isn't that the part I said I would have to remove because it is not properly attached to the main body?Technician1002 wrote:Back on subject, many of those have a lift off top or cheesy bayonet thread on the top that won't hold together with much of any significant pressure. My whole week has been great!
But I have some beer left, that needs to be consumed...
Also found a bottle of Jenever that needs emptying....
