So I got an idea, a lot of people like to make their AEG's and other Airsoft guns quiet. It really helps to hid your position on the airsoft field and overall makes a more effective gun.
Now I always admired how quiet a BBMG is, but I got another idea on how to make it quieter.
I was thinking about lining the inside of the chamber that houses the vortex in a thin arts and crafts foam. It would not take up much space and would silence BBS from rattling inside the gun as well as BBS hitting the side wall.
That with a foam "suppressor" along the barrel to reduce the noise of the "TINGS" of the BBS flying through the barrel.(not an actual suppressor mind you.)
The main idea is to line the inside of the vortex chamber with this thing foam. I have used it in my Drum Magazine for my AK to reduce the noise of the BBs shaking around.
I was also thinking about making the vortex block or vortex cap or whatever it may be in some sort of silent material but I have not found a good silent material that doesn't have massive amounts of friction.

You'd also have to coat your BBs in foam to stop them rattling against eachother

Not necessarily. Just stop the rattling noise from escaping the chamber.

actually once the foam is on the inside of the container the noise drops down enough where you cant hear anything past 5 feet.
My drum magazine is lined with the foam and it holds 2500 rounds and I can shake it pretty violently and you cant hear it at all.
The magazine was originally metal and was very loud. Even just moving it slightly would sound like a Rain maker.
So I would not have to line the BB's with foam lol...

any suggestions on a vortex block/cap material that would drop noise but not increase friction?

Stick a roll of mousepad type foam inside?
We've (the paintball community) have been doing this with our hoppers for years. It really does cut the noise. We use felt for the most part.
As far as the vortex cap, isn't that usually inside the chamber? If that is the case, you could probably just insulate the outside portion of it to reduce the noise.

that was the original plan, im just curious to see if there is such a material that would work for the vortex block and that would seriously cut down noise.

Now slowing down the rate of fire should be another thing on your list of to dos. Nothing gives your location away more than a beam of bb's, firing in bursts help but a slower rate of fire of say 15-20 rps would be nice.
