Nickname,

I am a WW2 collector and Reenactor/airsofter. I have tried several times to make this firing, but since this is just a MG 53 (Yugo MG42 copy) and there are plenty more of these rifles out in the world, I see no need to put it in firing condition. The dummy receiver is welded to all the parts, so I could not take the barrel sleeve and but stock and trigger setup off and onto a BATF semi auto reciever. But I appreciate your concern to try and preserve a piece of history. I would NEVER, I repeat, NEVER! Destroy a original MG 42 or any rare weapon. *Please dont read the following in a derogatory tone, Just a simple explanation.*

So what supplies would I need?

I have a crappy airsoft shot gun so far.

Please tell me what I need and where I need to go to get it.

How would I create an portable air source? If I use a co2 tank wouldnt it just flow right out and be wasted?

Any diagrams and photos are welcomed!

Thanks guys!

you need a regulator for the paintall tank, and most diagrams are on the wiki, all you really need to do with the shotguns is take it apart to get the barrel and hopup if you like building/fixing your own guns, i would save all the parts (spring, piston, etc.) just in case.

In my sig there's a link to my bbmg. There's some useful pictures in there on what to look for. Try and find the hop up on the shotgun. It should be right where the magazine goes. It's essentially a 6mm tee. The co2 tank should be regulated to 100ish psi that should also give you a lot more shots.

I really don't know but I could guess maybe 2x more but you should do some testing, with a 20oz tank I would be more worried about how much ammo I have.

Franz, Make it electric. My .50 cal sucks a 20oz down in about a minute of firing time.
An Aug gearbox has the correct motor angle for the MG42 hand grip.
Pickup a P90 hopup and nozzle for proper air seal.

I also replied to this on the WW2aa board.

.50 cal isn't 6mm though. :? Also if it's for airsoft you really don't want to be firing 800 fps. So a 20oz and regulated to 100ish should give you with my pop can chronographing about 200 fps but that was with a 9 inch barrel, with one the size of a mg42 you would maybe get 350ish.

Everyone is saying that they wouldn't pay $800 for it, but it is easily worth $2000+! I am VERY jealous of you!

Yeah, but parts kits run $800+, along with the cost of a dummy receiver ($200~) as well as the collector value even though it's a Yugo plus the cost and effort to actually put it together and the recent roller coaster gun market, even for dummy guns. That puts it at $1500 minimum.

The Yugo parts kits were available for $300 a year and half ago. Sten's and PPsH were $50 in the 90's. Even M2 .50 cals were $300-$500 in the 80's.

All kinds of MG kits come up for sale in batches from other country's. The receivers are usually cut 2-4 times and need to be re-welded, which is where the extra cost comes from.

Check your local laws weather or not your state allows the importation of demilled MG kits, the web site selling them will also let you know. Some states do not allow them to be imported, but are legal to posses and or display.

I thought that importing "assault weapons" and MG kits was banned by Clinton? Also, those prices were a year and a half ago.

I am referring to Importation = Mailing / shipping into your state.

There is no ban on pieces of metal that were once a gun. The definition of demill depends on your state laws.
