It depends on what you want. If you're only looking for a little one to pump up an air tank, they can be had for under $150 in most cases. If you want loads of pressure, bottled gas is more reasonable for the average spudder (high pressure compressors can run up well over $5k, even for the cheaper ones).

You will be much more successful if you learn by reading than if we spoonfeed you all the information. Never, ever play with a potentially dangerous device that you don't understand. Problems are inevitable if you do.

i have one thats 3 inches wide, 20 inches long

one that is 1.5 inches wide, 8 inches long

these were pvc pipes left over from my potato gun

and could i use a tire pump to up my tank ?

That isnt PVC, its ABS, For my airtank design you will need to get some pressure rated PVC and fittings. And yes, you can use a bike pump.

i've seen people on youtube just use a regular pump to fill their tank

Dont Just buy caps, you also need some pipe, as the stuff you have is ABS, and isnt pressure rated, but at least it will split instead of rupture .

blind is right. ABS is ok for combustion, but not exactly ideal for holding alot of pressure. If you choose to do what blind suggested. It will work. But you really should buy pvc pipe instead of trying to pressurize your abs.

Yes, ABS can only take shock pressure(In Combustions). It can explode at as little as 20 psi.

Well it wont be good. As far as i know abs pipe is not pressure rated. I havent read any tests but its a softer material that pvc. I would think it wouldt begin to rip much quicker than pvc would.

=I cant exactly tell you what it will hold but i can tell you, you would be much better of just buying pvc.

I dont know where you live but at the lowes by my house i can get a 2 foot piece of 2 inch pvc for 2.50 US dollars. That would be perfect for what your doing.

I wouldnt go so far as to say that. Anything CAN explode at 20 psi. I wouldnt say this is a concrete number. But like i said. Ive never read tests about it.

You could probably build this entire thing for about 25 dollars depending on what you make the actual gun out of.

The most expensive thing would be your air hose at a whopping 9 dollars.

I can also get 50 foot for about 12 dollars but its straight and does not coil. Would be a little much for his particular use.

But i guess if he can get 50 foot for the same price as i can he could just cut it. He could always use the rest of the hose at a later date.

I am talking about the clear non-recoil type, thats what I always use.

Yea thats what the 50 foot kind is. But the recoil type i linked to would be much easier. It is probably more that long enough for the specific application and it has 1/4 inch male thread. So, he would not need a hose barb. He could just thread the end directly into his pipe.
