Multi-barrel Inline Vortex

Has anyone ever seen/made an inline vortex with more than one vortex block and a barrel for each one?

I was thinking that not only could they be arranged side-by-side but also radially (the bottom of each block would be in the center of the pipe and the top would be against the inside wall). One could have 3 vortex blocks and really increase the rof!

There was this twin barrelled BBMG on spudtech but I don't really see the point - strafers are wasteful enough of air and BBs as it is, why make things worse? If you want more power, it's better to look at ways of lowering the rate of fire and increasing the energy per shot.

Jack speaks truth, a reliable repeater is much more devastating than a spray-and-pray gun (assuming you are trying this for airsoft matches) both in the real world, airsoft, paintball, etc.

Accuracy and ability/power can more than make up for speed.

You seem to be describing the beginings of an airsoft vortex gattling gun... Interesting idea, but the BBs feed by gravity in a vortex so the gun can't spin and fire very well. I believe it would be possible to make, but not that practical, too expensive and wasteful, not too mention slower ROF than a regular vortex due to spinning (you would have breaks in the fire waiting for gravity).

EDIT: Assuming you have enough of an air source you could potentially build a system invoving as many vortexes as you could fit on a platform, no spinning invovled, each one would have to have a different length barrel to allow for room around each individual vortex and they could all feed off of one large hopper of BBs. You would have the performance of many vortexes firing simulateously as one gun. Practical- not so much. Fun to consider and possibly shoot once or twice till everyone stops inviting you to games- hells yes.

I've seen that before but not that vid. Awesome addition. Not really a vortex though. :(

I remember seeing one that was "chain" fed once and another that was gravity/hopper fed. The hopper fed actually was variable speed (used a drill motor) and at the fastest speed would fire two empty barrels for each loaded barrel. They had to run it almost at the slowest speed to compensate for the loading speed of gravity alone. I am pretty sure this video is of a chain (or something with some pressure behind it, spring, etc.) fed gun.

I'm talking about an inline vortex with a spring and plunger. I probably should have mentioned that.

Anyway, I dont want the barrels to spin, just for them all to be firing at once.

Unless you have a massive compressor and unlimited BB budget, I wouldn't say it's worth the effort. I'd rather see an all-metal cloud hooked up to a 3,500 psi scuba tank :D

Yeah, that might work, but like Jack said, unless you have a ton of air and a lot of BBs it isn't really worth the time and effort to build it. It would be cool once, but then just a waste of BBs in my opinion.

The inline vortex would be easier to do this with, especially without spinning, but you would be better off building two and firing them at the same time with both hands. Then you can spray in multiple directions at once.

Now it sounds like a shotgun type. If that is the case, make a 3/4 or 1 inch cannon with saboted ammo.

In other words, your idea is neat and its good the gears are turning, it's just not that practical.

i still say someone needs to make something spring-powered on this fourm for once. a cheap AEG hop-up and barrel, with some modification, can easily allow someone to just build a spring piston and slap it on the end, effectively building an airsoft sniper rifle that can kick the ass off the competition.........

anyway, it would proboably be better if you just used some mechanical feed if you were going for multiple barrels. i saw a gun once that used the firing pressure of one of the barrels to reload and fire the other barrel, and vice versa. try replicating that, it would be sweeeeett........

^^Agreed. I nominate VH_man. :D

I am currently working on a paintball cannon that will generate its own propulsion gas using spring air technology. It will be posted when it's done.

I agree with vh_man, a spring powered gun would be pretty cool (with a powerful enough spring). It would also eliminate the need for an air/co2 tank.

I wonder how the bb gets out of the barrel without winding around in the air. becuase those barrels are spinning so fast.

Cannoncreator:

if you think about it, the BB is in the barrel for SMALL amounts of time. enough to give it an odd spin, but still NOT MUCH TIME.....

if you take 350FPS, for example. now lets say you have a 3 foot barrel.....

therefore, 3/350 should give you the time the BB spends in the barrel, assuming your BB accelerates instantaneously, wich im not really willing to take into aocunt right now, its early.

the time spend in a barrel is: .00857 seconds........

someone correct me if im wrong, but it sure does seem correct, minus the acceleration part.

EDIT: i just did a cheap GGDT simulation, and a bb traveling 350 FPS out of a 3 foot barrel takes a long 18.3 milliseconds............. lol.

basically, it has very little effect. its a good point though.......
