spring loaded
ive almost finished my first air rifle that i'am going to post, all i got to do is paint it and then get some pictures of the gun and some damage pictures.
For my next project i was hoping to be able to build a pistol that uses a spring that when pulled back and let go compresses just enough air for a single shot is this possible to do??

It's possible, but compared to the power potential of even the simplest pneumatic launcher, it's not worth the effort in my opinion.

They do, but they use massive springs and heavily engineered mechanisms that require expertise to replicate, and even so the most powerful spring piston guns don't go above 40 ft/lbs of muzzle energy, while some commercial pneumatic rifles will do over 10 times that amount.Strake wrote:so you dont think that you would get much power out of this. Dont slug guns work of kind of the same principal.
In short, if it's power you want, go pneumatic.

i agree its not worth the effort, you shoud just go and buy a cheap bb gun and make a different project, but if you have your heart set on spring power then i suggest you go to nerf haven and check this out http://nerfhaven.com/homemade/boltsniper_far/ then get yourself on the forum and check out some more stuf in the finished section
i cant buy a bb gun its illegal in Aus oh well, that FAR dosent look to bad i might try something like that one day but for now i might just have to stick to a good old pneumatic.
edit*ok ive got a new idea now lol when on wiki i seen a BB gun that ran on those small soda co2 canisters is there any way to use them in a pistol/rifle??

Buy a CO2 tire inflator and you can make a full auto machine pistol <--- as made by a fellow AussieStrake wrote:ok ive got a new idea now lol when on wiki i seen a BB gun that ran on those small soda co2 canisters is there any way to use them in a pistol/rifle??

or you could use unregulated co2 in a loud or vortex like BTB did http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/unregul ... 11684.html
not bad not bad would those co2 canisters work with a normal pneumatic rifle?, if so how long do you reckon a single shot would last? ohhh i love that ADR-50 i reckon i could do with something like that

there is a tool for calculating what pressure you will get from a 12g co2 in you chamber, i will find it for you
this one is for how much you need
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/how-muc ... t7133.html
and this is for pressure in a given chamber volume
http://www.spudfiles.com/spud_wiki/inde ... _cartridge
and some general FAQs which includes how many shouts can i get from an X sized tank filling an X sized chamber

yeah thanks for that comment ...ya testiclejackssmirkingrevenge wrote:I thought I sounded more eloquent than thatTwitcheth wrote:JSR are you aussie?
...nah seriously though; don't spring powered air rifles generate like 4500psi with the piston?
