Could someone explain to me how to do a mobile BBMG set-up? I understand the basic CO2 concept but I don't know about how to put it all together.

Far out..

CO2/HPA or propane (green gas) -> regulator ->trigger -> chamber.

Take caution as CO2 gets VERY cold as it expands. CO2 and HPA are under very high pressures, so buy a good regulator. If using CO2 or propane you may want to use an expansion chamber for full effect.

You probably want it regulated to 100ish psi. Check out neospud's bbg's, he often uses a regulated CO2 setup.

note that you don't need a regulator when you use propane...

it goes without saying that propane might not be the best idea if you want to use it mainly indoors

Depends. Propane pressure is very dependent on temperature, and it can reach 160+ psi; which obviously needs to be regged down. (unless my sources lie)

Note that BBMG's draw a lot of air/CO2 and your tank may go down faster then you like.

Sorry I'm new to this. So I will just ask these questions...

1. What is a good regulator and where could I purchase it?

2. What size CO2 tank is ideal for outdoor airsoft?

3. Could I buy fittings for a compressor to fill up the tank so I don't need to keep buying CO2?

You'll likely have to buy a reg online; I'm not sure if they sell them in most sporting goods stores.
Gort sells them at launchpotatoes.com(link on the left), but they're kinda expensive. Google around and find a decent paintball specialty site, or check ebay.

I'd go with at least a 16oz tank. Depends on how trigger happy you are.


You can adapt a co2 tank to an air compressor, but you'll be filling it up with air, not CO2, and it won't last more than a second or two.

yeah, as far as I know the regs at launchpotatoes.com aren't adjustable, either. I would look on ebay.

Because the CO2 becomes a liquid so way more fits into the tank.

Think about it, kid. CO2 is at an extremely high pressure.

Oh, I didn't know that the CO2 becomes a liquid under high pressure although that does make sense. I figured you could put air under the same amount of pressure. Thanks psycix.

No, air won't turn to a liquid unless you cool it down, even then you would need crazy high pressure.

If you want compressed air, buy a HPA/SCUBA tank, and maybe the fire station could fill it for you. even then it's not a liquid, it is air at 3000-4500 psi.

What you don't seem to get is that CO2 tanks are under thousands of pounds of pressure (2000 psi if I can recall) and a household compressor will go to AT MOST 120 psi. You will get nowhere near the same pressures.
