Inline Vortex buildlog/ work in progress

Hello, I plan on building an inline vortex BBMG, but I will start the project and upload the progress into the thread, and ask questions as I go along.
I plan on doing something like Gun Freak's M16 inline vortex BBMG ( http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/m16-inl ... 21147.html ), except with alot of parts from an old M4 airsoft springer gun, and with a (hopefully) operational M203 which will use 40mm shells made for an airsoft m203 launcher.
Anyways, what do I want to accomplish with this?
-I want to build something portable, with alot of firing time.
-To build something that is fieldable at events with ~80 people, within ~100 RPS and ~350 FPS
- To make it NOT look like a hodge-podge of parts from Lowe's, and more like a rifle.
- And to try to keep the project cost under $50.
Yes, I know that my final design WILL LOOK ALOT LIKE GUN FREAK'S, but it looks amazing and looks like it will fire about where I need it.
So far I have a 10in section of 3" pvc piping for the chamber, a barrel, stock, handguard and rails, spring for the plunger, and two fire extinguishers for the tanks. All I need is Bondo, the pvc bits for the rest of the chamber, and the fittings for the tank. I will go with the quick disconnect system so I can swap tanks in the field. I will probably get all of that tomorrow.
So, I will keep this thread updated most likely daily, with alot of high quality pictures, and probably medium quality video.
If you have any suggestions, advice, or angry things to say towards me, go ahead and reply if you want. I'm tired, so I'm going to go to sleep.

Sounds like you have a plan, but those two tanks will last you about 8 seconds at 120 psi, you may want to upgrade to hpa or co2

That's not really compatible with a $50 budget.

You could go for something along these lines with an on-board compressor, you can get one very cheaply and it should be able to keep up with a small chamber.

Alternatively, a manual pump on the launcher feeding into a small chamber that will give you say one burst every 3-5 pumps will be much lighter and more compact, though of course it will require more effort throughout.

I have a larger budget than that, but it would take longer to aquire, somewhere around $100, it was just a goal to keep it under $50.
I do like the idea of the car air compressor with a car battery kept in a pack.
I can EASILY acquire car batteries.
But I can't get the parts for awhile.
Also, the fire extinguishers are pretty bigger than Gun Freak's.
What would be the advantages of Co2? Couldn't I just get a much larger tank, like the size of a Co2 tank? Or is it the fact that it can be pressurized much more easily than air can?

Well co2s at close to 800 psi and regulated, a fire extinguisher is at 120 psi and you dont want to buy a reg. The disadvantages of the compressor is that its loud and those tend to burn out. Also do you want to carry around a car battery. Co2 is lighter, and more compact that the fire extinguisher and will last less than 20 seconds unregulated even if its twice the size of gun freaks. Its hard to make a portable BBMG for under $50. You can probably get a cheap reg of ebay and walmart sells tanks for under 30 bucks if you decide to go with co2.

Hey Grighton,
Word of advice if you want portability, lots of shots, etc, a fire extinguisher probably isn't the best bet unless you can pump them up between rounds or something, you might get a best total of 20 seconds firing with two FE's, which is kind of a lot, but if you have a lot of money to spend on this project, I'd totally go with HPA or CO2 because of the capacity.
Also, you say you want to use 3" PVC for the chamber and still retain the M4 look... not really going to happen. Honestly, I barely retained the M16 look using 2" pipe, but it is possible.
I am in the building process of a funcional M203, it will be very realistic looking and most likely a blowgun trigger or worst case scenario a 1/4" ball valve pilot, and will probably be able to be filled with my fire extinguisher tank, if it can work out good that way. It is a co-axial design with a 1.25" chamber and 1/2" barrel with a choke for better accuracy. The shell idea is nice but would be pretty hard to do. You would need to work out something like a preloaded pneumatic cartridge
I find that the QC fittings lose some precious air when connecting, so I am adding a 1/4" ball valve to mine so that I can close off the air to connect, losing less air and making it way easier to connect.
Anyways good luck with it and I am looking forward to some pictures of the progress :)

Well, I REALLY appreciate your advice. I planned on basing my M203 around these shells here : http://www.airsoftgi.com/images/airsoft ... renade.jpg . You fill them up with Green gas and load them into a launcher which presses a small button on the back.
Anyways, the reason I am straying from Co2 or an hpa rig is availability. I don't want to have to spend much money to fill up the tanks. If there was a way I could just pressurize air to about 800 psi, then I would, but I don't know how to. Another reason is startup cost. Other projects that were funded, and some other things quickly drained my small pool of money.
About the 3" pipe, I'll make it work :D. I really don't care if it looks as close to an M16 as yours, as long as it doesn't look like a clump of pipe, even though it is.
Would there be any way to rig up a pressure washer to fill a co2 tank with air at ~800 psi?
Oh, and I thought about doing the ball valve idea with the tanks too.

Well propane would be another option, its cheap and easy to find, its not nessacery to reg it down either, the main issue is you need an expansion chamber if you want more than burst fire and propane cools down as it expands.

Ahh, ok, I was planning on making one of those things to use for my M203, the design was a chamber sealing co-ax. Anyhow, the layout didn't work out and I was stuck with a barrel sealing co-ax, which I will build very soon.

Ehh... depends... how would you get 800 psi in the first place? I mean it's possible but I don't see it being practical. I think you can fill your own tanks if you have a SCUBA tank but I'm no expert on that. Maybe ask JSR about it.

Also as Clemsonguy1125 said, propane is also an option if you want to look into that.

Probably. I'll use that to fill in the cracks between the gun part and plastic m4 parts.

Also as Clemsonguy1125 said, propane is also an option if you want to look into that.
You mean using a propane tank in place of air?
Like a grill tank, or a camping stove size tank.

Yes replace air with propane, and a camping tank would be the most portable

What is hpa?
