Hey, another project I want to start in the near future, a high pressure vortex smg.. (high pressure means around 150 bars...)

Regged and all of that... However. I am thinking about how to make the magazine and.. the valve.. obviously the hammer valves I am used to working with won't work.. So any ideas about that one?

This might sound insane.. and it probably is.. but I want to give vortexes another whirl.. I want to use 4.5mm BB's (the lead only kind, in an actual rifled barrel) Mill a scope rail and all that, but still I have no clue on how to effing make the valve bit work.... Since I want a light trigger... using the trigger to actuate the valve won't work.. maybe I need to make some kind of piston valve that will stay open as long as you keep the pilot valve open, but will refill when you close the pilot...

this gon' be complicated.

Thanks for the help in advance!

So... you can't use a ball valve?

The man has a point, or a pressure washer handle as I used here.

There's absolutely no need for a piston valve if you use a high flow trigger and a cloud/vortex chamber.

lol at you signature btw Fnord, if I remember well it's from the "nail art" thread :D

Well, pressure washer should be possible, I want a somewhat lighter trigger though, And something that indeed looks more like a trigger instead of a ... well.. complete handle, and with regged I meant.. regged to 150 bars..

Anyway, I'll look into the pressure washer thing as you can probably take the mechnanism out of the handle itself.

But yeah.. Thanks for the replies so far, pressure washer didn't cone to mind at all yet.

Quite actually, that would be killer if hooked up to a solenoid.(only I'd still use it just after the hpa botlle)

How much pressure will those things take? I think like 80 ish bars?

What things?

And actually the "geared ball valve" I meant to link to was this one:

I meant the ball valves, and I intend to hook up a rather strong solenoid to the valve instead of gearing it. :)

it is going to be pretty heavy

have you considered a piston valve?

Well using a piston valve would be rather backwards, you see You could make a piston valve that returns to closed position wich kind of makes the ball valve obsolete...

I've never used ball valves at 150 bar, but for instance these are rated to 16 bar but I regularly use them at 60 bar without problems. I'm not saying this is the smartest option, but it works for me.

To be safe there are high pressure rated ball valves available.

It would probably be the best idea to either make or buy something similar to this:
http://www.connectworld.net/valves/eat.html

So a valve that is piloted using a separate circuit (preferably regged down to around 8 bar or so)

Why a rifled barrel.... you are shooting BBs.. rifling will make the bb curve to one side or another... you want a smooth bore, with a good hop up system.

I see one other issue with your choice of ammo... at 2175psi (150 bar) a jam will mean a smashed up pile of lead. not going to be easy to remove.

If he feeds it 150 bar there will be way less pressure in the chamber and if it jams it will build pressure behind it probably enough to blow it out any way
