I'm new and I don't have much experience with home made bb/airsoft guns but..

Could an aerosol duster be used to power a small homemade airsoft gun with 12g airsoft pellets at remotely practical speeds?
If it can that would be great since it’s a cheap portable long lasting pressure tank, regulator, and blowgun all in one. Another factor that may cause it not to work is the tendency to freeze stuff that you apply it to in some conditions

it might work...you'd better use a very litle union to put some kinda burst disc, to increase the pressure behind the BB before letting any air push it.
generaly, these dusters are compressed propane or butane...stored at 150 psi. so, you might get a cool little power!

just need to work your ghetto method now! :P

Really I thought it was something like compressed liquid nitrogen because of the freezing effect...

...any way what kind of configuration might be best for this ghetto gun? single shot? Vortex? Cloud?

If it was compressed liquid nitrogen it would explode... Scratch that. If it wasn't compressed it would still explode because it would compress itself. Anyways, it could work and i'd like to see it posted if you do it and i think it might be co2.

They work. You can even get a BB about 10 feet!

Well I’m going to try this anyways but I might need some help since I am n00b

And by the way to clear up whatever is in the duster can: a) the can will not explode if it is filled with liquid nitrogen the aerosol can is designed to withstand such high pressures constantly example: Butane
b) It doesn’t matter what’s inside, it’s just that whatever it is, it freezes/chills stuff when you shake the can while spraying or spray enclosed areas (like the bb chamber). So does it matter if my chamber is a little frosty?

It will get to higher presures than an aerosol can can withstand. Butane doesn't have to stay at such low temps to stay in liquid form. Liquid nitrogen flasks have a vent for expansion.

 Let’s just agree to disagree and discuss other on topic stuff like: does it matter if my chamber is a little frosty? And does it matter were the barrel goes? I’m thinking about a ¾ tee body one side extends over the top of the aerosol and attaches to the trigger piece for support and a tube from the nozzle attaches to the center of the tee (barrel is not shown)

OK, so you are going to try it. Did you read my first post at all? It makes BBs go about 16 fps and about 10 feet.

yeah I heard, but are you sure, how do you know? 16fps and 10 feet does'nt add up to me

hell if I can get 20 feet even 15 i'll do it its better than a cheap breaking airsoft mini

Lots of people have tried, you can if you really want to, but don't complain when it doesn't work.

I think the problem is that you have the pressure in the duster, but not the flow rate. The nozzle is too small to get enough air into your chamber. If you set it up somehow so it filled up a large tank, then dumped all the air in the tank into the chamber really quickly it would work better.

Oh BTW, when you shake it or flip it upsidedown, the stuff that comes out is difluoroethane or something like that. I probably spelled it wrong.

yeah I tried to mod a trigger spray cap nossle, but the new dusters I got wouldn't fit it and the nossle on my new ones have a square outter nossle, so I had to use a short straw attached to the tip of a pen sort of like this only better http://www.instructables.com/id/EZNZXIMWSREUSZO938/

okay I finished the prototype today and it works :) sure its not as strong as a well built compressor or co2 4.5mm bbmg but it certainly is NOT as weak as 16fps and 10 feet. if your used to metal bb guns or high grade airsoft then you probably wont like it.

it has the equal or greater power to a cheap mini airsoft guns found at overpriced rates in sporting goods stores (it’s 120fps at least). This is probably a better alternative then buying a mini, since low grade AEGs break easily. one more thing about pics uhmm :? yeah I’m kinda too embaressed to show how ugly my n00bie gun is  ...
