Why are ballistic knives illegal almost everywhere?

It can't be because of their weapon-like characteristics... they're practically as loud as firearms and less effective in pretty much every way. An untrained person could probably throw a knife with more lethality within the same range.

I can see if they are mistaken for normal knives... but you'd think it would be pretty obvious it had a valve/trigger/breech somewhere on it. I don't even see a reason the manufacture would try to hide the ballistics elements; it would be blatant lawsuit bait.

Anyway, nice work JSR. You sure can crank out some high-quality stuff in a hurry now. You should go over the body with some fine sandpaper and a buffing cloth to make it match the blade... just don't get sucked in if you do it on the lathe

Oh, and since you mentioned your irritation with me it elsewhere- I'm holding off on projects until I get my shop up to snuff. I have a couple little things I hope to post soon though.

edit also were you wearing any clothes when you took this picture

A couple times in the past I had to put on a shirt when I took pictures of reflective surfaces.

Only tried it from a couple of metres max so far, unfortunately the "miniboy effect" means that I'm not keen to try anything extreme for fear of damaging the blade

That's true, and in any case, why throw a perfectly good blade away? I think it's a psychological OMGSHOOTINGKNIFE thing. Scares the heck out of me, certainly.

The "silent" argument doesn't really hold, even for spring driven models, besides a garrote is much more effective and noiseless and you can't very well ban rope.

The flesh you can see reflected is actually my hand holding the camera, but in any case, yes, I regularly photograph my projects au naturel - as do all great ballisticians - the light bouncing off my shimmering cutaneous layer makes for softer tones

That is one sexeh piece of work! As to the legality, in the US, It's illegal to possess a ballistic knife propelled by gas or a spring. If you convert it to another particular "form of propulsion" It would be perfectly legal. Although it would be pointless to have due to the previously stated reasons. I must have one!!! :evil1:
